LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) to be May the 4th Promo Polybag

LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611)

It looks like we have some confirmation of what the May the 4th LEGO promotion will be for this year and we’ve already seen images of it before. A reader has emailed in details and they were told that it will be the brick-built LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) polybag. You can get it for free during the May the 4th promotion with a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $75 or more at LEGO Brand Stores and on Shop@Home.

I’ve been told that it this year’s promotional polybag would be a little different from previous years when they were exclusive minifigures and it appears that the brick-built R2-D2 will do just that. If you don’t wish to make a purchase during the May the 4th promo, you can build your own as the instructions have been online for a while. The only downside is that you have to substitute the front detailing as the printed 1×1 tiles are exclusive to this set. We’ll definitely confirm it when the May 2017 LEGO Store Calendar comes out in a few days.

Thanks to Sid for the info.

    Lame. Where’s TFA Luke?

    • David4

Never going to be made. I mean he’s in the movie all of three seconds.

If they can make a random First Order General minifig, they can do TFA Luke.

        • David4

Never will happen, never. There is at least one more movie with Luke in it, he probably will wear the same robe. So why make a Luke from A New New Hope of standing on a rock looking pointless when you can make him in Episode 8 where he will look the same and not be pointless?

          • The Anonymous Hutt

My thoughts exactly. I’d rather have a holographic Leia to commemorate the 4OTH ANNIVERSARY OF A NEW HOPE!

          • David4

I like that idea! Also would fit into Rogue One.

If Toryn Farr can worm her way into a set, I would be surprised if they didn’t push out a much more major character like Luke into at least a polybag. They’re just probably holding out for how many sets he’ll presumably be in with episode 8.

        • David4

Never going to happen. Never. They will just make a Episode 8 minifigure Luke that looks the same.

          • Dark Vader

I hope they do just so you are proven wrong. Just saying.

      • David Ruck

Quadjumper was in the movie for less screen time and got a set!

        • David4

That’s a ship and also a set. What is everyone picturing a set with Episode 7 Luke looking like? They aren’t going to give a good character away in promo set more so when he will be in some expensive set for episode 8 looking exactly the same.

Promos are for useless characters we will never see in a set, we are going to se Luke 5 minutes after the first movie ended in a new movie, they wil just make that Luke.

“Useless figure we’ll never see in a set”

-is commenting on a promo bag for R2D2

            I think that’s kinda ironic, even if it’s a brick built R2D2

          • David4

What’s ironic? R2D2 is in every Star Wars Episode, so he is a good pick for a free promo. Luke will be made into at least one Episode 8 set, because he was a completely useless character in episode 8.

          • Reaven Veaceslav

By commenting that “promos are for useless characters we will never see in a set,” on an article about a R2D2 promo, arguably one of the most important Star Wars characters, there is irony because the usefulness of R2D2 is in-congruent with your assessment of promo bags.

Nevermind, it was just a joke comment anyway

Aren’t going to give away a good character in a promo? have you seen Revan?

    • David4

Also you are calling a FREE promo lame. Keep it up and LEGO won’t give you any promos at all.

      • The Anonymous Hutt

I’d rather have no promos at all than stupid ones. Lego could put their money into something more worthwhile, like a Cloud City set.

  2. David4

This makes sense. Then next year they can have another ship build or character on a stand to connect with this.

    • The Anonymous Hutt

This isn’t the minifgure bag with the connector pin, this is the brick built R2.There is nothing for it to connect to.

      • David4

Ooppps, losing my mind. I was thinking this was the minifigure droid for a second.

        • The Anonymous Hutt

That is completely understandable. After reading this, I am losing my mind too! xD

    • Rick Sanchez

uuuuugh… you’re right, these could become a regular thing instead of a rare figure…

TFA Luke will be available later in the year in one of the EPVIII sets so they wouldn’t put him in a polybag now.

You’re a few days early Allen.

    It isn’t the 1st yet.

I don’t know where else to say this, but has anybody seen the news on Lego Club magazine now being called “Lego Life Magazine?” I just received one (yes, I still get the magazines, doesn’t mean I’m a kid) but instead of being called Lego Club Magazine, it is now Lego Life Magazine. This is a disgrace to the Lego Club, and have no idea why I haven’t heard about this news before.

Once again, I don’t know where else to say this. I just wanted to make people aware of the information.

    • Rick Sanchez

      boooooo lego life, booooo.
(you have to be age 5-9 to be eligible for free subscriptions now, or they won’t let you sign up for them.)

    • Gary McRoberts

Are you serious? You are outraged that they changed the word Club to the word Life?!!

      • The Anonymous Hutt

Yep, that and the fact that the word Life is all about their new app that is only used to send tongue smileys to your friends.

      • Reaven Veaceslav

I mean, they’ve made the magazine devoutly pediatric now, since it has an age range of 5 to 9 years old.

  6. Rick Sanchez

time to dig out my old red printed R4 dome piece to change this into an R4 unit…
