Way back in August of last year, there was talk about the Series 2 LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures (71009) even though Series 1 was still in stores. That was when speculation started up of who will be included in Series 2 before LEGO officially revealed them back in March.

There are 60 minifigures in a box and you can pretty much find three complete sets in a full unopened box. Each of the packets are $3.99 and they contain a random character from the wave. I’ve managed to collect all 16 from Series 2 on my first try with the help of my feel guide which hopefully you can use as well to find the character(s) you want.

Homer in his best suit and tie

Homer is back again for Series 2 but instead of him wearing his normal white shirt, he’s in a formal attire with the suit and tie. The suit jacket is a darker blue color while the pants are a lighter shade of blue which makes him look a little off. It is pretty accurate to the cartoon but he does look a little weird. Homer’s accessory is a 2×2 printed tile which shows a heart-shaped box of chocolates.

Marge in a fancy dress

We can’t have Homer without Marge and she is a great minifigure. She is also in her formal attire with her orange dress with white gloves. Part of her dress is made from a cloth piece that covers her legs. Marge’s head mold is similar to the other versions of her but for this one, there is some red lipstick printing. Her accessories include a 1×2 tile blue purse and some red flowers in that rare flower stem piece.

Lisa with Snowball II

Next up on the list is Lisa. She is wearing a pink dress that you see her wearing to church in a lot of epidoses. Her hair has some additional printing of a pink bow as well. I sort of wish that she also had the hat she normally wears along with the dress. Lisa’s accessory is her pet cat Snowball II which looks amazing. The size of the cat mold is a little large but the detailing on it is great down to the green eyes and red collar.

Maggie with Santa’s Little Helper

Maggie, in my opinion, is the worst minifigure in Series 2 because she’s the exact same one as in The Simpsons House (71006) and the body piece is the same from the Series 1 wave. The only difference from Series 1 to 2 is the head piece where she is looking straight while the other had her looking to the side. The family pet dog Santa’s Little Helper is the draw of this minifigure as it completes the whole Simpsons family. Like with Snowball II, Santa’s Little Helper is very accurate with the slim brown greyhound body and his wide eyes.

Bart as Bartman

Rounding out the core Simpsons family is Bart dressed up as his alter-ego Bartman. Although Bartman has only appeared in a handful of episodes, he is very recognizable with the purple mask and cape. He also wears his typical red shirt and blue shorts. His accessory is his trusty slingshot.

Milhouse as Fallout Boy

Milhouse’s alter-ego Fallout Boy has also appeared in a couple of episodes, where the most memorable episode was when Milhouse was cast to play Fallout Boy in the Radioactive Man movie. He wears a blue shirt and shorts with green gloves. The head mold is similar to the Series 1 Milhouse except there is a new green mask printing and angry eyes. He also wears a lime green cape to complete his look. His accessory is a can of Buzz Cola.

Comic Book Guy

We’ve finally made it to a brand new Simpsons character for Series 2 with Comic Book Guy. Known for his sarcastic quips about certain things, he runs the Android’s Dungeon and Baseball Card Shop which is frequented by Bart and Milhouse. His torso print is pretty nice showing off his belly. His shorts are a maroon color and his shoes are a light blue color. His head mold is pretty awesome with the ponytail and beard printing. Comic Book Guy’s accessories are a Squishee drink and a copy of Everyman from his self-published comic book series.

Martin Prince

Up next is Bart’s annoying classmate Martin Prince who is often ridiculed and bullied by his classmates especially Nelson. He wears a white polo shirt with some pens in the front pocket which makes a great generic shirt. He has some short legs with orange shorts although I’m not sure why his shoes are also orange. His accessory is a book called Coping with a High IQ which I think doesn’t have a backstory to it.

Professor Frink

Professor Frink is Springfield’s wacky scientist and college professor and his representation as a LEGO minifigure is a great one. His torso has a very nice lab coat printing with a blue bowtie. He wears some pink/magenta pants with part of the lab coat printing as well. His accessory is a new green liquid colored flask.

Hans Moleman

Hans Moleman is another of Springfield’s senior citizen to make it into The Simpsons Series Minifigures with Grandpa being the first in the last wave. Hans is a shorter minifigure wearing a white shirt and tie with green pants. His head mold has a wrinkly texture to it with all the little bumps. His accessory is a printed 1×2 tile of his revoked license.

Selma

Selma is one of the Bouvier sisters and is the younger twin sister of Patty. She wears a blue dress which is completed with the blue cloth piece around the waist. Her head/hair piece is one probably of the largest pieces I’ve seen since I started collecting LEGO. Her accessory is an eye chart.

Patty

Patty is Selma’s older twin sister she looks pretty much the same as her sister except for the dress color and hair style. For Patty, she wears a pink dress with the cloth piece while her hair piece is more rounder than Selma’s. Her accessory is just a simple Friends purse.

Groundskeeper Willie

As his name states, Willie is Springfield Elementary’s groundskeeper as well as their janitor. He wears some dark green overalls over a brown shirt. There’s also details on both arms showing how hairy he is. His head mold is spot on showing his Scottish heritage with the red beard and eyebrows. His accessory is a plunger.

Edna Krabappel

Bart’s teacher Edna Krabappel is a nice addition to the Series 2 wave considering that the fan-favorite character was retired back in 2013. The minifigure has her usual green cardigan printing with a light blue skirt. Like with many other characters in the wave, Edna’s head piece is pretty much spot on. She is one of the few characerers in Series 2 to have two accessories which includes a pink mug and a 2×2 printed tile of Woodrow who’s image is actually of Gordie Howe.

Waylon Smithers

In the first wave of Simpsons minifigures, we got Mr. Burns so ideally we are happy the get Mr. Smithers in wave two. He wears the usual olive green jacket that been seen in a majority of episodes as well as a purple bow tie. The head mold again is pretty much perfect with his short spiky hair and glasses. His accessory is a box of Malibu Stacy doll featuring a new hat. The box is made of a 2×2 printed tile on a 2×2 plate.

Dr. Hibbert

The final minifigure in the Series 2 LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures is the town doctor, Julius Hibbert. Known for his infectious laugh, he does have a head mold to fit his personality. For the torso and legs, you can some nice printing of his lab coat. His accessory is a x-ray of Homer’s head with a crayon lodged into his brain from when he was a kid.

Results

Overall, if you purchase a full box of the Series 2 LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures (71009), you should be able to get three complete sets. I would say that Series 2 is a slight improvement from Series 1 (71005) with a majority of new characters being introduced. The only downside I have is including the core Simpsons family again albeit with new outfits. Plus we wouldn’t have a Simpsons theme without the family to anchor the sets.

If I would to choose my favorite minifigures from Series 2, it’ll be really hard since many of them are pretty remarkable with the head molds and overall design but I would say Fallout Boy since Milhouse is one of my favorite characters, Comic Book Guy, Smithers, Edna Krabappel, and Professor Frink. I also do like the two pets, Snowball II and Santa’s Little Helper were also included so you can complete the family fairly easily.

You may notice that there are still a lot of major characters that haven’t been released which might mean that LEGO is probably saving them for a future series or set. Some of these characters include Principal Skinner, Moe Szyslak but that’s pretty unlikely, Otto Mann, Sideshow Mel, Reverend Lovejoy but that’s slim since LEGO tries to stay away from religious aspects, Kent Brockman, Sideshow Bob, Bleeding Gums Murphy, Lenny, Carl, Rainier Wolfcastle, Troy McClure, Marvin Monroe, Disco Stu, Sherri and Terri, Radioactive Man, Kang and Kodos, and Mayor Quimby. Just that list along could make up Series 3 and part of Series 4 if they’d like.

Anyways, the LEGO The Simpsons Series 2 (71009) Minifigures are now widely available at LEGO Stores, Shop@Home, and many other retailers. Who are your favorite characters from this wave?
