LEGO Unikitty! Theme Song to be Performed by BABYMETAL

LEGO Unikitty!

At the Cartoon Network’s Unikitty! panel at San Diego Comic Con 2017 yesterday, attendees got an exclusive look at the first episode of the show. In an unexpected reveal, Ed Skudder and Aaron Waltke announced that Japanese metal band BABYMETAL will be performing the theme song. This is surprising news and it may help boost the popularity of the new show as Babymetal has quite a large fanbase. As for the episode itself, like I said in my live-tweet of the panel, it was interesting and has potential. I won’t go into detail of what the episode was about as to not spoil it.

I’m only vaguely familiar with Babymetal but this seems to make a lot of sense.

When South Park debuted, the VHS short had already made it’s way through my comic local shop, but I’m sure the Primus theme song didn’t hurt in generating buzz for the series debut.

I didn’t see this one coming, but I’m totally into it. We need to see new popular metal bands getting deals like this.

I’m a big metal head and after just watching a few Babymetal videos I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about them.

I did really appreciate Batman’s foray into metal in the Lego movie though.

For metal’s survival as a genre, it obviously needs people to be writing and popularizing metal music. I don’t feel like the number of new popular metal bands equals the number of old bands who are slowly dying out, so I’m more concerned that the genre will die by complacency and low contribution.

I have about as many opinions about metal as I do about Lego and I can’t disagree with this. While I don’t think Metal is endanger of dying out per se, having a new ‘gateway’ band can’t be a bad thing. At the very least from the dozen or so songs I heard, Babymetal do have some pretty heavy stuff in there. I will certainly take that any day over some of the hard rock acts that think they are metal just because they put skulls on their album covers.

Babymetal is when JPOP meets the range of metal related genres.

Wait, this is a Japanese band, but the theme song is still English, right? It would be very strange to have an opening theme with Japanese lyrics! xD

They can sing in english, so…

They basically sing in a manner that sounds like English, but is closer to Engrish.
