LEGO Star Wars Buildable Figures Captain Phasma (75118) Review

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakes Buildable Figures Captain Phasma (75118)

In the beginning of the year, LEGO released some new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens sets including the new wave of Buildable Figures sets. This includes some of the main characters in the movie including Captain Phasma (75118). The set has 82 pieces and retails at $24.99. The higher price is slightly justified by some of the items which I’ll explain a little later. The contents of the box include two un-numbered bags, a bagged cape, a loose torso frame, and the instructions booklet.

LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures (71012) Update

I haven’t talked much about this lately but there are some new updates to the LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures (71012) since I last posted about them. You may remember there was a rumored list for the figures coming from a Ukrainian site. Unfortunately, that list turned out to be dead in the water and there was no merit to it.

Fast-forward to the present time and there have been a few members on Eurobricks who have pretty much confirmed a couple of minifigures that will indeed be in the wave including Ursula, Peter Pan, Mr. Incredible, and Syndrome. This has been corroborated by some images of hair molds that popped up online a few weeks ago. There are also rumors of Genie, Mickey Mouse, Captain Hook, and two unspecified Disney Princesses. The LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures (71012) are scheduled to be released in May and we should have more details coming out in the next couple of months.

Collaborative builds and innovators galore

Issue 4 of Bricks Culture magazine continues to explore the world of LEGO and its role within modern pop culture. As more individuals adopt this medium as a form of expression we discover bonds are being formed, spawning the most amazing collaborative builds.

Bricks Culture Issue 4

This issues cover, showcases the amazing work of the Arvo brothers and how they have taken their Alien model to the next level, by producing it as a book. Prolific builder Simon Liu looks at community builds and shares his love for science fiction while David Alexander Smith conducts an collaborative experiment by asking three builders to create one model. This is without the knowledge of what the other is building – an amazing outcome I am sure you will agree.

Bricks Culture Issue 4

When it comes to pioneering builders this issue is not in short supply as we visit the home of OrionPax and delve through his tv inspired creations. Including giant transformers, terminators and realistic inspector gadget model. We catch up with former LEGO designer and space aficionado Bjarne Panduro Tveskov before visiting Alaska to discover the Bionicle creations of Breann Sledge.

LEGO Creator Year of the Monkey (40207)

LEGO Year of the Monkey (40207)

Lunar New Year 2016, aka Chinese New Year, is now less than one month away and people, including me, have already started preparing for the occasion. For 2016, the Chinese zodiac lands on the Year of the Monkey so for those who were born in the years 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016, this is your year to shine.

For the past couple of years, LEGO has released small Creator sets celebrating the Lunar New Year with sets that are only available in Asian countries and they have continued that this year with the Year of the Monkey (40207) set. This set has 165 pieces and is currently available at Toys R Us Hong Kong as part of their promotion.

For people in other parts of the world, it’s almost impossible to get one of these sets unless you have connections or you just buy it off the secondary market. Fortunately, LEGO has provided the building instructions for you to create your own if you have the parts. I hope LEGO continues these kinds of builds for at least two more years for the the Year of the Dog because I’ll be very interested in that one.
