New Change to LEGO Monthly Mini Build Registration

LEGO Monthly Mini Build Change

There’s been many changes to the LEGO Monthly Mini Events the past couple of months with the new registration system and the changing of the dates of when you can register and now, there’s another change starting next month.

Registration for LEGO’s December Monthly Mini Build starts today but there is information about January’s event at the bottom. Starting next month, in order to participate in the future LEGO Monthly Mini Builds, you have to be a VIP member and need a registered email address.

I assume most people who attend the events are already VIP members but if you’re not (I’m not sure why since it’s free), you can sign up here.

LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures (71012) Will Have 18 Characters

There’s some new information coming out of Brick Pirate regarding the upcoming LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures (71012). Usually we get 16 different minifigures to collect with the regular Collectible Minifigures but in the Disney series, it looks like LEGO has changed it up a little because there will be 18 characters to collect. Not much else is known at this time but it’s rumored that we could be seeing Peter Pan and Captain Hook. It’s also high possible that Mickey Mouse will be in the series considering he is the face of Disney. More details as they come.

Some LEGO Super Heroes 2016 Minifigure Details

In the past couple of days, there have been more leaks of various LEGO sets but of course I’m not going to post the images. However I can still talk about them, mainly for some of the LEGO Super Heroes including DC and Marvel.

There’s not much details about the DC sets except that one of them includes minifigures of Batman, Harley Quinn, and Deadshot.

The details of some of the Marvel sets have been floating around various forums but there is information that some of you may enjoy. For the Iron Skull Sub Attack (76048), the set includes minifigures of Scuba Iron Man, aka Mark 37 (Hammerhead), Scuba Captain America, Iron Skull, and a Hydra Diver.

Another set is called the Avenjet Space Mission (76049) and it’s a neat one. The Avenjet is similar to the ship seen in the Avengers Assemble animated series but the cool stuff is the minifigures that are included. We get Space Iron Man, aka Mark 39 (Starboost), Space Captain America, Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, Hyperion, and get this, a bigfig version of Thanos.

I know this is pretty vague with no official images to look at but I’m pretty excited for the new characters especially Thanos. Also the new Iron Man suits gets us a little closer to a collection of the Iron Legion from Iron Man 3. If you do run across these leaked images, please do not post them in the comments or I’ll have to remove them.

Black Friday is still a few weeks away but ads for various retailers are now available and the Walmart ad is one that many fans may be interested in. Last year, they sold the Creative Tower (10664) which contained 1600 pieces for $30. It normally retails for $60 but you know what happens during Black Friday. For half of the price, you get a variety of bricks in numerous colors. Prepare to fight the crazy crowds if you’re going for this set.

LEGO Star Wars: Small Scenes from a Big Galaxy Book Review

About a week ago, I received a copy of DK’s LEGO Star Wars: Small Scenes from a Big Galaxy by Vesa Lehtimäki, aka Avanaut. If you’ve search for LEGO photography at one time or another, you’ve probably come across his photos before. It consists of 176 pages filled with his work and retails for $24.99. Small Scenes from a Big Galaxy is a good example of what a coffee table book should be as it is filled with tons of high quality images from the artist.

One thing the book does not consist much of are words, at least the majority of it. The reason is because the book really doesn’t need words. However in the captions, Avanaut sometimes gives you some insight on how the images were created like using various household objects like gypsum and baking powder. Other times, you get a short description of what the scene is about. If you’ve tried LEGO photography before, you know that there’s lots of little details you have to get to find the right composition for the object. Avanaut is one of the many LEGO photographers who has pretty much mastered this craft.

The Behind the Scenes section of the book, it takes you through the life of Avanaut and how he has gotten to this point in his career. It also shows some of his concept art as compared to the final shot. Did you know that one shot took four years and two photoshoots to get right?

Overall, LEGO Star Wars: Small Scenes … Continue
