Philly Brick Fest 2015 Glow Zone

Philly Brick Fest 2015 Glow Zone

The LEGO news is fairly slow the past couple of days so I’ve had some time to go over the pictures I took while at Philly Brick Fest. The first thing I’ll be featuring is the Glow Zone which was newly implemented since I last attended PBF from last year. The Glow Zone is pretty much a collection of builds that use translucent pieces contained in a curtained off area that is lit up by a blacklight to give the builds a cool effect. The main centerpiece of the Glow Zone is the Cthulhu-looking creature by Carter Baldwin.

Philly Brick Fest 2015 LEGO Phillie Phanatic

Philly Brick Fest 2015 LEGO Phillie Phanatic

I’ve finally had time to go through the swag bag for registered attendees from Philly Brick Fest a few weeks ago and one of the items included was a LEGO mini build of the Philadelphia Phillies’ famous mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. The Phanatic is recognized as one of the best sports mascots and was the the first mascot to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.

I believe the LEGO Phanatic build was created by Carter Baldwin (correct me if I’m wrong) and it uses the new LEGO Mixels joints to give it plenty of articulation on the head, arms, and legs. It even has the extendable tongue by the way of a red wand piece. The sticker of the Phillies jersey completes the look of the character.

Overall the mini LEGO Phillie Phanatic is a very neat little build that was included in the swag bag. I really like the look of it compared to the real-life counterpart. I’ll be showing off more swag that I got from my trip in the next few days when I have some free time. I also have tons of pictures to upload of the MOCs that were on dispay so I’ll probably be breaking them up in a couple of posts.

LEGO AKIRA Kaneda’s Motorcycle by Sariel

Sariel is back at it with another LEGO build that I very much enjoy looking at because it’s based on one of my favorite manga series/anime, AKIRA. As you can see, the build is Shotaro Kaneda’s iconic motorcycle which features custom stickers as well as drive and steering controls via Power Functions. You just have to see it in action below to try and get a glimpse of how cool Sariel’s version is.

If you’re a polybag hunter, it’s time to keep your eye our for the LEGO Star Wars TIE Advanced Prototype (30275) polybag at your local Toys R Us stores soon. This polybag was first reported being seen at a Canadian Toys R Us and now it has been listed on the US website for $3.99 each so we can assume that the polybag will be in stores here soon. Employees can enter the item number 238677 if you can’t find it at the LEGO section.

The TIE Advanced Prototype (30275) contains 47 pieces and is pretty much a smaller version of the 75082 set that was released earlier this year.

LEGO Store May 2015 Monthly Mini Build Event Koala (40130) Review

LEGO May 2015 Monthly Mini Build - Koala (40130)

It’s another month and another LEGO Store Monthly Mini Build event has gone by. For May 2015, we have a Koala (40130) which has a very similar building style as the LEGO Seasonal Valentine’s Day Teddy Bear (40085) and Easter Bunny (40086) just to name a few. Since this is a mini build, it only has 65 pieces which is about half the size of the other creatures.

LEGO May 2015 Monthly Mini Build - Koala (40130)

The build itself is very simple with the major colors being bluish gray and white with some shades of pink for the mouth and ears. The completed look is pretty cute with a head that spins on a turntable piece. The arms and legs are on hinges so they have some articulation as well. The only thing I didn’t like about the Koala is the body looks a little thin if you look at it straight.

LEGO May 2015 Monthly Mini Build - Koala (40130)

Overall, the Koala (40130) is a nice little build for May and it goes great with the Seasonal characters from last year if you managed to pick them up. Next month’s Mini Build will be a Parrot and it’ll be the last one using the current system of waiting in line during the day of the event. If you saw my earlier post today, there will be some changes coming to LEGO Monthly Mini Build Program where you have to register online to reserve your spot to be able to participate. That means no more lining up during the day of the event. You can read more about the changes in the … Continue

LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221) Destroyed

You may have already watched this but yesterday, many LEGO fans saw something Wired did to the now retired LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer (10221) to celebrate Star Wars Day. If you haven’t seen the video yet, you can experience it below. I think Sir Alec Guinness said it best as Obi-Wan Kenobi, “There was great disturbance in the Force. as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror.”
