New LEGO In-Store Action App Now Available

LEGO has set a goal this year to leverage digitalisation and they have been doing that with the new LEGO Fusion sets as well as apps like LEGO Connect. Today they have released their latest app called LEGO In-Store Action.

This free app allows you to scan special LEGO posters at select stores which will reveal an animated LEGO Minifigure so you can take a picture with it and share with your friends and family.

Features:
– Scan special LEGO posters in stores with your smartphone or tablet camera to take an awesome photo with a LEGO Minifigure!
– When scanning a poster, the Minifigures will come to life and animate in fun poses for tons of different photo opportunities. Pause the animation at any time to compose the perfect photo!
– The app will be updated frequently, so be sure to check back often to see if new Minifigures have been added…can you snap them all? Who will you find next?
– Not at a store? No problem! The app also features two Minifigures you can take pictures with without scanning the in-store posters, right in your own home.

LEGO BIONICLE Numbered Exclusive Tahu Mask from NYCC 2014

LEGO BIONICLE 2014 NYCC VIP LEGO BIONICLE Event - Exclusive Tahu Mask

Earlier today, we reported on an exclusive LEGO BIONICLE Tahu Mask for the first 200 attendees to line up at the LEGO booth at New York Comic Con 2014. For those who had the special invite to the BIONICLE panel, they were also invited to an after hours event at the new Flatiron District store. There they were given one of the limited Exclusive Tahu Masks which are individually numbered to only 100.

On this one, you get a different card backing from the one that was given out at the booth. There’s a red strip across the center saying “2014 NYCC VIP LEGO BIONICLE Event” and on the bottom left corner, you’re told which one out of 100 you have.

Thanks to Chad from Your Creative Friends for sending over an image of the Tahu Mask.

San Diego – Fashion Valley October 2014 LEGO Community Window

LEGO Community Window - San Diego

To get in the Halloween mood, the LEGO Community Window at my LEGO Brand Store (Fashion Valley) has been updated by a couple of members from SandLUG. This month, we have Spooky Ville! which is a haunted house filled with a number of CubeDudes built by Jason which he names CubeCreatures. As you can see, the Creatures are based on monsters that you probably would see during Halloween time like Dracula, the Bride of Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Blob, the Frankenstein Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Headless Horseman, the Swamp Thing, and many more. I’ve been informed that a couple of the characters were built by Hao as well.

The haunted house itself is created by Hao and Tommy and has some interesting details like the way they created the cemetery headstone in the shape of a cross using a TECHNIC belt wheel and modified 1×1’s with clip.

If you’re in the area and have some free time, I highly suggest swinging by the store to check out the LEGO Community Window and see it in person because the pictures really don’t do it justice.

LEGO BIONICLE Official Website Updated

LEGO BIONICLE

The official LEGO BIONICLE website has been updated with images of some of the characters as well as a short bio for them. Word coming out of New York Comic Con 2014 is that LEGO BIONICLE will be a reboot and there will be short 90 second online movies later on.

GALI – Master of Water

Gali is friendly and peaceful. But when the situation calls for it, she can be as fierce as a raging ocean. She finds injustice intolerable and always goes out of her way to help the ones who need it. Gali’s mellow ways have made her the most liked among the heroes. She is generous, a good listener and friend. Only one little thing: she just can’t seem to tell a joke right! Powers: Water control and the ability to out-swim any known creature.

KOPAKA – Master of Ice

Kopaka is noble and reserved. Upholding his own strict moral code he strives to be perfect and always “do the right thing”. A fact that often makes him appear formal and even cold in the eyes of others. Luckily Kopaka’s clumsiness and his not too solid direction sense help the other heroes remember that, after all, Kopaka is just a Toa like them. Power: Freezing touch and resistance to cold.

LEGO BIONICLE Exclusive Tahu Mask from New York Comic Con 2014

Our first LEGO details coming out of New York Comic Con 2014 is the exclusive that they are giving out to attendees. Of course, the event is mainly to reveal more of LEGO BIONICLE and attendees are getting an Exclusive Tahu Mask. As you can see above, it’s a clear mask that is in the same clamshell packaging we’ve seen from SDCC minifigures. Stay tuned for more details of the LEGO BIONICLE reveal throughout the day. Update: There’s now a clearer picture of the transparent Tahu Mask. LEGO is giving you a chance to win one on Twitter. I was told that this version are for the first 200 attendees who lined up at the LEGO booth when the floor opened.

The LEGO Group Ends Partnership with Shell

The Guardian is reporting that The LEGO Group has ended their partnership with Shell. This comes after pressure from Greenpeace and their viral video against Arctic drilling. Before, LEGO announced that the company would live up to their long term contract with the oil company but it looks like LEGO has done a complete 180 on the deal.

The partnership between LEGO and Shell has been going on since the 1960s with the first Shell sets being released in 1966. This most likely means that there will be no more promotional Shell sets being released anymore which makes existing sets go up in value on the secondary market. LEGO CEO Jørgen Vig Knudstorp notes:

“Our stakeholders have high expectations of the way we operate. So do we. We do not agree with the tactics used by Greenpeace that may have created misunderstandings among our stakeholders about the way we operate, and we want to ensure our attention is not diverted from our commitment to delivering creative and inspiring play experiences.”

You can the full statement from Jørgen here. And with that, this post will be the last time that we will be reporting on it.
