LEGO Developing Reality TV Show

Now here’s an interesting concept. The Guardian is reporting that LEGO will be developing and launching a reality TV series in 2015. The show will be a competition format and Jill Wilfert, LEGO’s Vice-President of Global Licensing and Distribution, notes that the company is “exploring some reality competition show formats, which is new for us: the idea of becoming a Master Builder is something we think could be quite resonating.”

This kind of sounds very similar to The Apprentice but with building challenges and if you’re the one who lasts until the end, there could be a Master Builder job waiting for you at The LEGO Group. There’s no word on whether this show will be here in the States or overseas.

The Guardian also notes that LEGO will be increasing their focus on TV and digital entertainment so we’ll probably be seeing more content coming out in the next few years.

Would you want to be on a reality show like this?

Having Some Fun Building a LEGO UCS Invisible Jet

Over on Reddit, user John Wray, aka JimmyLegs50, has created something fun during the holiday weekend with his kids, the LEGO DC Super Heroes UCS Invisible Jet which includes a Wonder Woman minifigure. The set contains 3,200 invisible pieces and even the instructions are invisible. Of course, no such thing exists (yet) but that doesn’t keep him from having some fun with his kids with the help of Photoshop.

There will be an official set next year with an Invisible Jet next year with the Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas (76026) set but it’s not as cool as what John has done. Cool dad points added. Check out the rest of the photos here.

Will There Be LEGO Sets Based on the Civil War Storyline?

Variety is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to sign on for Captain America 3 which paves the way for a new phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Civil War storyline.

If you’re familiar with the Cival War storyline, it pits Tony Stark and Steve Rogers against each other when they feud over the Superhero Registration Act. The Act forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their true identities to the government. Of course, many characters are for it like Stark and others aren’t like Rogers. The Superhero Registration Act includes many Marvel characters in the storyline including Spider-Man. Currently the Spider-Man franchise is owned by Sony but there are rumors they may be sharing the franchise with Marvel so both companies can use the character.

Will this news translate into official LEGO sets? My guess is probably since this is one of the most popular storylines in Marvel’s history but it’s still too early to tell. Captain America 3 won’t happen for a few more years but it’s never too early to speculate. What minifigures do you want to see in sets if LEGO does produce sets based on the Civil War? For reference, here’s a list of characters who are involved in the storyline.

2014 Fourth Quarter LEGO Store Pick-A-Brick Wall Elements Part 2

LEGO Fourth Quarter Pick-A-Brick Elements

For the second part of our report on the fourth quarter elements on the LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall, there we have elements that are new for the wall and are good for general building. If you remember from our first report from a few days ago, those elements go well with The LEGO Movie and LEGO Legends of Chima builds.

For the general parts list, there are some fairly hard-to-find bright colored elements that could be useful for many builds. These elements include 2×4 lime plates, 2×2 pink bricks, 2×4 pink bricks, 2×2 tan tiles, 1×2 dark azure bricks, 2×3 brown bricks, 1×4 medium lavender plates, 2×1 magenta 45 slopes, and 1×2 lime jumper plates. Most of the parts come from the LEGO Friends line but they do give some variety and opens up some new color options for you to use for your builds.

LEGO One Piece Thousand Sunny by Orion Pax

Earlier this year, we featured a MOC from my of my favorite manga/anime series, the Thousand Sunny from One Piece. Unfortunately, the images that it was hosted on was taken down so we have a replacement.

Alex Jones (Orion Pax) never cease to amaze and he has created his version of the famous Straw Hat Pirates ship. The MOC is very accurate to the show with the custom sail piece and the lion figurehead at the bow. Check out more images of the Thousand Sunny on Alex’s site.

LEGO Star Wars Rebels TRU Micro Ghost Instructions

LEGO Toys R Us Star Wars Rebels Event

Today was the LEGO Star Wars Rebels building event at Toys R Us stores. If you were lucky to be there early, you got a chance to build a Micro Ghost ship from the animated TV series and take it home. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it to the event but fellow SandLUG member Charlie did and he was kind enough to send us the instructions for the build. You can either download the PDF copy here or check out the images below to build your own. Thanks Charlie!

LEGO Brand Retail Store (40145)

Brickset is reporting there will be a new LEGO Brand Retail Store model (40145) that will be given away for new stores that are opening next year. The current set (3300003) has been given away at grand opening events since 2012 and it looks like it’s time for a little change.

The new set has a more modernized look and it opens up to reveal the store inside which shows the Pick-A-Brick Wall, the display cases, and a cashier. The outside of the building shows Brickley to the left of the door. Check out the image below to see the details of the new LEGO Store set (40145).
