The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be coming out next Tuesday and there are some LEGO-related things going on with the movie as well. There is still time to pre-order the LEGO The Hobbit Video Game from Gamestop and you will receive the exclusive Good Morning Bilbo Baggins minifigure shown above.
Also, Target will be selling the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD copy of the movie which includes the Legolas Greenleaf (30215) polybag.
If you’re excited for the new LEGO The Simpsons Series Minifigures (71005), you may want to check out your local Walmart stores. I received an email by a reader named Michelle who found a box of 60 on the shelves at her Walmart in Walker, LA. The minifigures will officially be released on May 1st. So if you want to get your hands on them a little earlier, it may behoove you to check out Walmart and see if they put them on shelves on accident.
It is now April and The LEGO Movie’s The Emmet Awards have started another contest for the month. This month’s contest is called Ordinary to Extraordinary. For this contest, you just have to build an ordinary LEGO model and add pieces to it to make it extraordinary. You can upload up to four images and people can vote on them. The contest lasts until the end of the month.
The Ordinary to Extraordinary Award. – Take everyday vehicles and buildings and rebuild them into something totally crazy-awesome to help save the day! Be sure to upload a before AND after photo so everyone can see the transformation!
According to Deadline.com, Jason Bateman has joined up to narrate the LEGO documentary, Beyond The Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary. The film will be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month. The film is direced by Oscar-winner Daniel Junge (Saving Face) and Oscar-nominatee Kief Davidson (Open Heart). The film is the first official LEGO documentary and it covers everything LEGO related including conventions the fans of the brick.
LEGO bricks have captured imaginations for generations, and today, the community of builders is bigger than ever: Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) display their latest creations at Brick Conventions, self-proclaimed Master Builders create entire worlds out of the modular bricks, and a corporate design team plans the Times Square unveiling of the largest LEGO model ever created. Directed by Oscar-winner Daniel Junge and Oscar-nominee Kief Davidson, Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary playfully delves into the extraordinary impact of the LEGO brick, its massive global fan base, and the innovative uses for it that have sprung up around the world. It seemed that yesterday, I caused quite a stir with my post stating that I will be leaving my site at the end of the month. It seems that I couldn’t fool some of you guys. I am happy to announce that I will not be leaving The Brick Fan and will be continuing what I’ve enjoyed doing for the past two years. To those who thought I was really leaving, I’m very sorry for pulling that joke on you. There were quite a few comments left on the post as well as on Facebook from a number of fans and I was touched that many of you really enjoy coming to the site. As a result of this joke, I will be doing another giveaway in the very near future! Stay tuned for that.

Although today is April Fool’s Day, this isn’t a joke. The official images of the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets based on the Michael Bay movie are now available courtesy of Canadian online retailer Chapters Indigo. They have listed two of the three sets that will be available this summer, the Turtle Van Takedown (79115) and the Big Rig Snow Getaway (79116). They have yet to list the Turtle Lair Invasion (79117) at this time. There are also details of the sets below.
Turtle Van Takedown (79115) – 368 pics/$39.99.
Vern and Raphael are speeding through the city streets in the souped-up Turtle Van to rescue Michelangelo, but the Foot Soldier has lowered the barricade gate to block the road. Check the on-board computer to outwit it and accelerate to top speed to crash through the barricade. Open up the side doors to unleash the hidden flick missiles and fire the roof missiles to hit the gas tank and blow up the gate. When you find Michelangelo, release the mechanical arms holding him down on the stretcher and crank up the van’s Turtle Power to zoom away.
