Rumors of LEGO Simpsons in 2014

There are some late night rumors swirling about a LEGO licensing agreement with 20th Century Fox of possible The Simpsons sets as early as 2014. Mads Nipper, LEGO’s marketing director, confirms there are ongoing negotiations with the creators of The Simpsons to produce LEGO sets of the iconic cartoon series. There’s no word yet of when an agreement is expected as of this time.

If there is an agreement between the company giants, it will mark another victory in LEGO’s corner of attracting some well-known 80’s-90’s cartoons in becoming official sets including the recently released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme. I feel the Simpsons sets will be pretty popular with AFOLs and TFOLs due to the large array of bright colors used to create the cartoon. What are your thoughts of some LEGO The Simpsons sets? Stay tuned for more details of this very surprising news.

Update: The rumors are now confirmed!

LEGO Ends Two-Year Promotional Partnership with The Sun

In some major news across the pond, LEGO announced today they have ended their two-year promotional partnership with The Sun. This comes after a parent took his anti-Page 3 campaign to LEGOLAND and Wapping. However, LEGO denies that ending the partnership was not linked to the online petition but the partnership naturally ended on it’s own.

Fiona Wright, Lego’s vice president and general manager in the UK and Ireland, told one anti-Page 3 supporter: “The recent promotion in the Sun was part of a two-year agreement which started in 2011 as part of our marketing strategy. This is our final promotion with the Sun.”

The Guardian notes that:

The Sun said the partnership officially ended in November 2012, and that the recent “Lucky Dip” promotion used stock from the previous agreement.

There’s no word as of now on how LEGO will handle their polybag promotions.

LEGO Minifigures: Character Encyclopedia Exclusive Minifigure Revealed

LEGO Minifigures: Character Encyclopedia Exclusive Minifigure

Last year, we reported there will be a brand new LEGO Minifigures: Character Encyclopedia being released this year but weren’t sure what the exclusive minifigure was. Today, Hong Kong LUG (HKLUG) revealed what this minifigure will be in the DK Book. As you can see in the image above, it will be a Toy Soldier in a red and blue colored uniform with a rifle and a wind-up key.

The LEGO Minifigures: Character Encyclopedia will feature all the minifigures from Series 1 through 10. The book has 208 pages and will retail for $18.99 and will be available May 1, 2013 but you can pre-order it on Amazon today.

In one of the images from the book, Mr. Gold from Series 10 is also featured. The description for him is as follows:

Somewhere out there is a very special Minifigure called Mr. Gold. Shiny and golden from the top of his hat to the tips of his toes, he never turns up exactly where and when you are looking for him. If you do happen to spot him, it is said that you will be lucky all day long!

Mini Facts
Likes: Being found by accident
Dislikes: Fingerprints on his spotless finish
See Also: There’s no one else like Mr. Gold!

Did You Know?
Mr. Gold was created as an exclusive character to celebrate the 10th series of LEGO Minifigures. He is very rare and the only figure that can’t be found in every case of Minifigure bags.

Our friends, Richard Lawson at Bricktrader and Richard Hayes from Brick Fanatics, have been hard at work to create the first regional LEGO User Group in Britain and today, they’ve officially launched their site. Application is open to anyone over the age of 18 who would like to meet and attend events in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Richard Lawson, Chairman of the Brickshire said “We want to provide a friendly forum for our members and offer them regular opportunities to meet and display LEGO® models locally, with as much support from The LEGO® Group as possible, which is something that hasn’t been available until now.”

Richard Hayes, Brickshire’s LEGO® Ambassador and Secretary added “It’s important that we build a
