Christina Stephens’ LEGO Prosthetic Leg

The video of Christina Stephens using LEGO bricks to make a prosthetic leg has been making the rounds on the internet and now has gone viral. Christina is a practicing occupational therapist and clinical researcher and someone in her lab suggested that she make a prosthetic leg out of LEGO bricks and that’s exactly what she did. This shows that LEGO is more than just a child’s toy and with some creativity and imagination, you can build anything to your heart’s content. New Images of the LEGO Technic 4×4 Crawler Exclusive Edition (41999)

LEGO Technic 41999 4x4 Crawler Exclusive Edition

Flickr user Ryan Smith, aka The Scooter Guy, has posted images of the new LEGO Technic 4×4 Crawler Exclusive Edition (41999). The images are originally from Egor Karshiev (rm8) who was the winner of the “You Design It, We Make It” Co-Creation Technic Challenge from a few months back. Egor went to Denmark for vacation and got to see the set being produced. As the winner, he has received the very first copy of the set off the production line and has done a very in-depth review of the 4×4 Crawler. I highly recommend you read it to see all the little details about the set.

The set contains 1585 pieces and retails for $199.99. It will be available for pre-order at Shop@Home on August 1st. There will only be 20,000 sets being produced. After reading Egor’s review and seeing images of it, will you be picking up the Crawler as well?

Cairns Central Vandalism Update

Last week, we reported that LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught’s $25,000, six-week project named “Elvis the Helicopter” was destroyed by some juveniles at Cairns Central. Today, there is an update to that story. Two 14 year old boys were part of a group of juveniles who destroyed the 100,000 piece display. They were caught and arrested with one count each of entering the premises and willful damage under the Australian Youth Justice Act. Police are continuing with the investigation and are expecting the other kids will be caught and charged as well.

New LEGO CUUSOO Minecraft Set Details Revealed

LEGO Minecraft

Neoape is revealed some juicy details of the new LEGO CUUSOO Minecraft sets. A couple of weeks ago, we reported that there going to be two expansion Minecraft sets coming out in the near future. Now we know that LEGO 21105 will be The Nether and LEGO 21106 will be The Village.

Update: Both sets are now available.

The Nether consists of flames and flowing lava throughout the area. My guess is there will be lots of orange and red pieces to represent the flames and lava. There are also zombie pigmen and ghast that spawn in the Nether so they could be some of the microfigures that could be included.

The Village consists of groups of buildings that are in the world of Minecraft. Materials that are used the create the buildings are made from wood, cobblestone, and glass. I am assuming there will be quite a few brown and grey pieces included in the set. There could be some NPC microfigures in this set as well.

As of this writing, there’s no word on pricing or piece counts for the two sets but we’ll let you know when it becomes available.

Brick Owl Marketplace Officially Launches

There’s been a plethora of new LEGO marketplaces and trading sites that have come online in the past few months. Back in May, Project Swapfig was launched as a LEGO Collectible Minifigure trading site. A month later, Bricktrader started up as an auction trading site. Three weeks ago, it was announced that the popular LEGO marketplace, BrickLink was sold to Korean game giant Nexon. Today marks the arrival of Brick Owl. I’ve taken a look around the site and it looks like it’ll be giving BrickLink a serious run for it’s money although time will tell if it will be successful as it’s competition. The site has a clean design and runs amazingly fast. One nice feature is that Brick Owl is able to be integrate your wishlist from LDraw, LDD, or Brickstore. As of this writing, there are already 114 stores set up for you to purchase from. Below is the press release for Brick Owl:

Brick Owl is a new marketplace to buy and sell LEGO Parts, Minifigures and Sets. It’s been designed to be used by anybody but still have all of the advanced features that AFOLs need. Some of the features of the website include:

  • Instant checkout including instant payment via PayPal and shipping rates visible upfront while items are being added to the cart
  • Wishlist buying tool – Brick Owl will tell you which stores have your Wishlist items, how much they cost including shipping, and then let you choose which stores to buy from and add all the items
