My BrickCon 2012 Story

As LEGO fans, we like to help out the community if we can. This past weekend, BrickCon 2012 was going on in Seattle. With some luck, I managed to receive some tickets to go to the event but something came up at the last moment and I couldn’t go. As a result, I was stuck with a pair of tickets that I couldn’t use. I had to find a way to make them not go to waste.

As a member of Chris Pirillo’s Gnomies community, I knew that he lives in Seattle so I reached out to him to see if he or someone he knew could use the tickets. Chris already had his tickets, but fortunately he knew someone who could use them. Oleg Moskalensky was the person that we thought would be the best choice. Oleg has a son who’s been though a lot the past few weeks and he thought BrickCon would be a great way to cheer him up. To Oleg’s surprise, he received the pair of tickets and today, Oleg and his son went to one of the biggest LEGO conventions in the West Coast. To see the pictures Oleg took with his son at BrickCon, head over to his Google+ page.

In the end, it certainly feels good to help someone put a smile on a child’s face. I hope to get out to my first BrickCon some day, but in my opinion, this was way better than me going this year.

LEGO The Hobbit Set Poster

LEGO Hobbit Set Poster

Sometimes_snarky on Reddit posted a picture of a poster for the new LEGO The Hobbit sets from Toys R Us. Not sure yet of how the user got a hold of it yet. More details as they come.

**Update 1:** According to the user, “I had found all the bags to an open Republic Frigate set (7964) they thought they had lost. I jokingly asked if I got a prize or something. She gave me the poster and an additional 10% off the open box price.”

What I’m thinking is that Toys R Us will be giving them away with a purchase in the near future promotion. I haven’t heard anything about that yet.

**Update 2:** Sometimes_snarky has added individual pictures of the sets. You can see them here.

The sets shown are as follows:

Riddles For The Ring (79000)
An Unexpected Gathering (79003)
The Goblin King Battle (79010)
Barrel Escape (79004)
Attack of the Wargs (79002)
Escape From Mirkwood Spiders (79001)

Notice that the Barrel Escape and Escape From Mirkwood Spiders sets are marked with the label “Special The Hobbit Trilogy Preview Set.”

**Update 3:** I went to Toys R Us today to see if there was any information regarding the poster but the employees there didn’t seem to know about it. I looked behind the checkout counter to see if there was evidence of a giveaway but did not see anything to suggest that. Either they’re stored in the back or the employees really don’t know about … Continue
