Comparing the LEGO Ideas The Flintstones (21316) to Submitted Project

LEGO Ideas The Flintstones (21316)

The LEGO Ideas The Flintstones (21316) was officially announced yesterday and there has been a divide among fans of how the set came out. A few of you have asked me to compare the original project to the one that will be coming out later this week. I did have a clear look at the project when I was at Philly Brick Fest last year and here are my thoughts.

LEGO Ideas The Flintstones

As with other LEGO Ideas sets, there are differences between the official set and the projects as LEGO has the final say on what they want in the set. One of the things I’ve noticed is that the official set has more muted colors compared to the project which had very vibrant colors as some of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons had. The result is somewhat bland especially on the inside of the house.

The dirt path and the Welcome to Bedrock sign has been completely omitted which helped reduce the parts count. Some other things that were excluded were some of the characters such as Bamm-Bamm, Pebbles, and Dino. I’m not sure why they were left out but considering the Big Bang Theory (21302) set had seven minifigures at a lower price point, adding two, possibly three more would have been nice. Perhaps they could be in a future set? Probably not.

Speaking of the minifigures, Barney has been given regular legs and is the same height as Fred even though the cartoon, he was considerably shorter. I think using the new bendable short legs from … Continue

LEGO Star Wars Podracer – 20th Anniversary Edition (30461) Polybag Revealed

LEGO Star Wars Podracer - 20th Anniversary Edition (30461)

We’ve already seen images and details of the upcoming LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary Edition sets that will be coming out later this year. At the New York Toy Fair, LEGO has showed off an additional set in the form of a polybag. It is the Podracer (30461) which has 58 pieces and it pays homage to Anakin’s podracer and is a smaller counterpart to the 75258 version. There’s no word yet on its availability at this time but I assume it’ll be part of a promotion when the 20th Anniversary Edition sets are released.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Bricktober 2018 (5005256) Promotion Coming in March

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Bricktober 2018 (5005256)

It’s a busy news day today and this piece of news is no exception even if it’s not New York Toy Fair related. I have just received confirmation that the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Bricktober 2019 (5005256) will indeed be coming to the United States next month. It will be a gift-with-purchase promotion at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home from March 1-7 with purchases of $75 or more of Marvel products. I’m assuming to coincide with the release of the Avengers: Endgame sets since some stores overseas have already started selling them. So for those who have been waiting to complete the Bricktober 2018 sets, you can rest assured that we don’t have to resort to the secondary market to get it. Thanks to my close contact for the heads up!

Update: I’ve been told that it is with any LEGO purchase of $75 or more, not just on Marvel sets so that makes it even easier!

LEGO Wins Four Toy of the Year 2019 Awards

Back in November of last year, the nominees for the 2019 Toy of the Year awards were announced and LEGO was nominated for a few categories. The awards show was yesterday and I’m happy to report that LEGO has won in four of the seven categories they were in. It seemed that many of the voters enjoyed the return of the LEGO Harry Potter line as the theme took home three awards. Another great for LEGO and it looks like they’re already making a run for next year’s awards with the newly announced LEGO Hidden Side theme.
