Today, LEGO celebrates its 89th birthday. On this day way back in 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen began making his iconic wooden toys. It wasn’t until 1958 when the first brick was patented by his son and the rest is history. If you haven’t seen The LEGO Story below, it’s a great animated video showing LEGO’s history.

I don’t think there’s anything special planned for today but we can surely expect something big for next year when LEGO celebrates nine decades of play. One thing is the 90th anniversary fan vote in which LEGO will be choosing a classic theme to make a set for.

LEGOLAND California will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of LEGO Ninjago from August 13 – September 7. You can do various activities at the park digitally as part of their augmented reality adventure. There is also Ninjago-inspired rides, food, and more most likely inside LEGO Ninjago World which opened at the park a few years ago.

The set was named Playset of the Year by the Toy Association earlier this year for its innovative play features. It is priced at $79.98 which is $20 off the normal retail price for this 1,010 piece set.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition (76391) Officially Announced

LEGO has officially announced its next LEGO Harry Potter exclusive set with the Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ Edition (76391). Releasing on September 2, the set has 3,010 pieces and will retail for $249.99.

The set features Hedwig as the centerpiece but it also includes a number of other Hogwarts related items including Harry’s glasses and wand, a chocolate frog, Tom Riddle’s diary, the Golden Snitch, a school scarf, and a potions tray with five potions such as Asphdel, Gillyweed, Polyjuice Potion, Infusion of Wormwood, and Felix Felicis. Also in the set are three exclusive golden minifigures of Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid with a stand featuring the chocolate frog card box. Finally, there’s a Hogwarts acceptance letter from Professor McGonagall.

LEGO Looking to Grow in Hiring Push

If you’ve ever wanted to work at LEGO, I’ve been told that they are making a huge hiring push for the LEGO Brand Stores as well as at various headquarter locations here in the US. I suppose they are starting to gear up for seasonal positions as things start to ramp up for the holiday season.

If you’ve ever worked retail before, there is a chance for you to be put on as a regular member of the staff and possibly even be promoted to other positions. I’ve known people who have started at retail and ended up working at Enfield which allowed them to travel the world to various LEGO events. I’ve tried to apply years ago but it didn’t work out since it was sort of a conflict of interest with what I got going on here. LEGO Ideas Sailboat Adventure (40487) Promo Set Revealed

Earlier today, the August 2021 LEGO Store Calendar was published and in it we can also see the upcoming LEGO Ideas Sailboat Adventure (40487) promotional set. It was announced as the winner of the Build that Holiday building contest a year ago and we finally get to see what it looks like.

The build pretty much maintains the original look from yc_solo down to the dolphins jumping out of the water. The promotion will run from August 1-3 for VIPs and August 4-29 for the general public, while supplies last, and it will require a $200 purchase. I believe this is one of the largest, if not the largest purchase requirement, I’ve seen for a promo item in many years and will most likely carry a hefty aftermarket price.
