LEGO Ideas Building Contest – Get Your Build Displayed at LEGO House

LEGO has kicked off a new building contest on LEGO Ideas where your build could be displayed at the LEGO House for an entire year. There are three categories that your model can be based on and they include:

• Alternative nature build: Show us the best of nature with a something a little different, with bricks. LEGO Bricks!
• A fun LEGO Minifigure or Mini-doll scene: show off a LEGO theme of your choice in a mini-scene! Classic Castle? City? Or even something like Ninjago! These can be everyday life, humorous or wacky! But please no 3rd party IP references.
• An Architecture build: Using incredible buildings, structures or your imagination, build an architecture style model. Around the size of current Architecture LEGO Sets. We are not looking for small/micro builds.

LEGO will be choosing around 25 winners from each category who all will have their builds displayed at the LEGO House as well as getting a copy of the LEGO House (21037). There will also be a Grand Prize Winner for each category and they will get:

• 21037 LEGO House
• A signed 40501 The Duck
• A signed 40502 The Brick Moulding Machine
• 21326 Winnie the Pooh
• 21325 Medieval Blacksmith

The deadline to submit your entries is April 28 at 6am EST.

LEGO Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship First Details Revealed

Over a year ago, LEGO announced that the Republic Gunship will become an upcoming LEGO Star Wars UCS set and after that, there have absolutely been no news about until today. There was a roundtable with LEGO Star Wars designers and Fan Media which I couldn’t attend but Brickset has the scoop on what we can expect for it.

The UCS Republic Gunship is designed by Hans Burkhard Schlömer and it will finally be released this year. The cockpit consists of two 10x4x3 cockpit elements “positioned end-to-end.” They speculate the length of the ship will be about 50cm-55cm and it was said that a small coffee table will be needed to display the set. It was also said that Jedi Bob will not be included in the set, bummer.

Hearing what was set about the upcoming LEGO Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship, what do think about it so far?

LEGO Accepting Backorders for Spring Lantern Festival (80107) on LEGO Shop

LEGO is now accepting backorders on the LEGO Spring Lantern Festival (80107). The set has been highly popular and has been temporarily sold out since its release at the beginning of the year. It retails for $119.99 and it will ship in 60 days. If you decide to get it, your order also qualifies you for the Amelia Earhart Tribute (40450) as well as the Easter Bunny’s Carrot House (40449). The Story of Nian (80106) is also accepting backorders but it’ll only get you the Carrot House if you just buy that.

Toys R Us Making Another Comeback

It looks like Toys R Us will be making another comeback this year as CNBC is reporting that WHP Global has acquired Tru Kids, the parent company of Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and Geoffrey the Giraffe brands. It’s actually been three years since Toys R Us closed but they are planning to open stores again ahead of the holiday season. I’m not really counting the two pop-up stores that opened in Texas and New Jersey in 2019 which also closed down in January due to COVID-19. It was reported that that the new stores will be in various formats including flagships, pop-ups, airport locations and mini stores inside other retailers. There’s no word yet on how many locations will be opening at the start.

Hopefully the new owners will be able to pick up the piece of what Toys R Us used to be. If you’re new to The Brick Fan, many of you don’t know that I used to work at TRU right when this site was in its infant stages and I used to stock the LEGO aisle at my store. I eventually got transferred to Babies R Us and I stayed there until everything closed back in 2018 here in the US. There are still many TRU stores open around the world which still have LEGO exclusives, mainly in the Asian countries. Hopefully TRU and LEGO can continue their partnership once stores are running smoothly.
