LEGO Responds to Girl’s Letter Asking For More Female Minifigures

Earlier this week, we reported that a young girl wrote a letter to The LEGO Group asking for more female minifigures to go adventures. LEGO has responded to that letter with pretty much what I wrote in my editorial. I stated that kids should starting making their own adventures with the vast variety of female minifigures already available to them. So to Charlotte and people supporting her, stop trying to push your political agenda to a company that has already been making huge strides the past few years to cater to both genders. Hopefully, this will be the last time I’ll be talking about this subject matter. Take a look at LEGO’s response below:

We are grateful that we have a product that so many children around the world engage with. Each year hundreds of thousands of children all over the world reach out to us after playing with our products, and give us positive feedback and suggestions for ways to improve. We reply to all consumers who reach out to us, and this answer is between us and the consumer unless the consumer decides to share our response of course.

We believe that LEGO® play appeals to children of both genders and all ages. Building with LEGO bricks fosters the creativity of children which is why it’s our mission to offer any child – regardless of their age, gender or interests – a relevant LEGO play experience.

LEGO play has often been more appealing to boys, but we have been very focused on including more

BrickSlopes 2014 in the Works

I’ve been recently contacted by Steve Poulsen to talk about a new LEGO convention called BrickSlopes which will be happening in a few months. This convention is started by Steve along with Cody Ottley and are members of UtahLUG. They have been in the Utah LEGO community for a while and decided it was time to start a LEGO convention in their area. BrickSlopes is an event created for everyone around the world but especially for individuals who are in the Intermountain West and Pacific coast since there aren’t that many LEGO conventions in that geographical area.

Like with many other LEGO events, there will be public showings where you can see many cool LEGO creations from awesome builders. Also, LEGOLAND California’s Master Model Builder, Gary McIntire, will be the keynote speaker at the convention. The event will be happening May 1-4 with the public showings on the 2nd & 3rd at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah. Check out Steve and Cody’s interview on Beyond the Brick from last year where they go in-depth more about BrickSlopes. Also, follow their Facebook Page for updates about the event.

My Response to a Little Girl’s Letter to LEGO (Editorial)

A young girl by the name of Charlotte has been making the rounds on the internet of a letter seen above that was sent to LEGO.

Dear Lego Company:

My name is Charlotte. I am 7 years old and I love legos but I don’t like that there are more Lego boy people and barely any Lego girls. Today I went to a store and saw legos in two sections the girls pink and the boys blue. All the girls did was sit at home, go to the beach, and shop, and they had no jobs but the boys went on adventures, worked, saved people, and had jobs, even swam with sharks. I want you to make more Lego girl people and let them go on adventures and have fun ok!?!

Thank you.

From Charlotte.

I usually don’t write about controversial topics like this but this is something I would like to touch on. From what I’ve seen, many people have been praising Charlotte for writing such a powerful letter to LEGO. As a LEGO fan, I have to disagree with Charlotte’s letter as well as to everyone I’ve seen supporting her and here’s why.

LEGO has been trying very hard the past few years to get more younger girls building from the highly popular LEGO Friends sets as well as the newly released Disney Princess sets. Charlotte’s point in the letter is that she wants more female minifigure to have more adventures. There have been plenty of female minifigures in “boys” sets such as a … Continue

More LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler (75059) Details

Last year, we reported that there was a rumor of a new LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler (75059) was being released this year. It looks like that rumor has been confirmed by Brick Shop Holland. There are no images at this time and they have listed the set as an Ultimate Collector’s Series set but it may just be a larger set much like the Ewok Village (10236) from last year. There’s no word on the piece count but jvdrummer182 on Brickset states that it will retail at $349.99. At that price point, my guess is the piece count would be in the upper 2000s/lower 3000s. The origial Sandcrawler (10144) only had 1669 pieces but I suspect this new version will be much larger than that. There’s also no word on the release date but one possibility is during the LEGO May the 4th event. More details as they become available.

**Image above is not the new Sandcrawler. It is mb_bricks’ LEGO CUUSOO project.**
