Two Weeks Left to Get LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon for Black VIP Card

There are about two weeks left in the year and for those who are still trying to get the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192), here are some tips for you to potentially get one to get the exclusive Black VIP Card before the end of 2017.

Shop@Home is pretty much out of the question as there has been very low quantities on-hand online for a short period of time. Your best chance to get one is if you live close to a LEGO Brand Store. Either call or visit them and check if their waiting list for the Falcon is close to being done. I’ve have a few reports from readers that say their stores (Palisades Mall for one) have completed their lists and the Falcons are now on a first-come, first-served basis. If they do have some in stock, ask if they can put it on hold and you can hop over there to pick it up. If not, check when their next shipments are and it’s possible there may be some on the trucks. Also you can ask to be put on the waiting list if the stores are still doing them for the next ones that come in.

It’s unfortunate that the Black LEGO VIP Card is only available with a purchase of the UCS Millennium Falcon because there was so much demand and very little quantities for fans, there’s no way that it will pass the reported 30,000 number of cards that are available. Hopefully LEGO will extend the promotion into 2018 and let fans be able to get their hands on one as they are still ramping up production to produce more Falcons.

When Lego put out their official statement they did say while supplies last so if they do not give out 30,000 (if that was the true max number available) then it will be extended into 2018. So there is a new hope! Haha see what I did there…

According to a Lego employee, they do have a large stock of UCS Milennium Falcon’s and were intentionally releasing a limited amount of stock in batches in order to limit the amount of Black LEGO VIP Cards – as these will unlock offers of up to 25% off in 2018. A large amount of people with the Black LEGO VIP Cards could hurt Lego’s profits – unless of-course they brought multiples or other sets with the money saved.

Personally i would have gotten one if they actually had released enough of them online – but it’s not particularly as impressive as it should have been. They could have easily added more interior rooms and given a young and old Luke figure also. Now it’s too late, I’ve put money into other things.

If that’s actually the case, that’s pretty shady. I don’t think marketing thought it the whole way through in terms of the discount.

artificial scarcity can drive initial sales volume, and expand social media awareness through viral hype, I think TLG marketing has done well

That would make sense in the absence of the black VIP card. However, if this rumor is actually true, then not only is TLG artificially holding stock back for marketing purposes, but they’re going to spend the next year rubbing it in the faces of everyone who really wanted this set but simply wasn’t given the opportunity to buy one.

I’m not sure that’s the image TLG wants to be creating for itself.

Actually, the black VIP card is part of the psychology of the artificial scarcity tactic, thats the driver to get people who may be on the fence about spending north of $800 on a lego set to jump in and make an effort to buy early, as the price on the secondary market peaked around $1300, the supply of new sets ramped up and kept prices from going higher. People who want the set will likely be in communication with their local store and already know the supply is coming in before the 29th deadline, which may likely be extended to 2018. My bet is the “discounts” for the black VIP will just match what other retailers routinely discount at anyways.

Watch out before someone trips over all those assumptions.

I’d have been quite happy to forego the interior detail since it won’t be played with when completed.

Well, finally managed to get one last Friday. Just in time for MrsH to wrap it up for my Christmas present! My ‘local’ store (in Milton Keynes, UK) – on the route of my weekly 150 mile commute – got some in that day. They had about 10 on the shop floor mid-afternoon, having sold around 20 during the day. So relieved.

Been calling daily all 4 LEGO stores here in the Bay Area CA, and all have told the same thing – check back on last week of January, when it will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlist has been done and fulfilled, but tough luck for those trying to get it.

I got mine in the latest s@h release, arrived last week. A little surprised to see the production date on the label is July. That batch was supposedly sold out.
