A Look at Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary Panel at SDCC 2014

A Look at Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary SDCC 2014 Panel

On Saturday at San Diego Comic Con 2014, Joe Meno (BrickJournal) moderated the A Look at Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary panel which also features one of the film’s directors, Kief Davidson, associate producer Andrew Oppenheimer, and Tommy Williamson (BrickNerd). A surprise guest to the panel was Nathan Sawaya (BrickArtist.com).

The panel is pretty much what the title is. It took a look behind the scenes of the documentary that was released earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. There were clips from the film showing what LEGO meant for members of the LEGO community. Joe also showed off Tommy’s timelape animation for the film called Nerdception which you can watch below.

Overall, it was a really good panel and it was cool to see the room actually interested in what goes on in the LEGO community. Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary will be available in theaters in early 2015. After the panel, Joe offered instructions for a 4-wide Batmobile, TARDIS model, and an LDD file of Olaf from Frozen to anyone who entered their email at the TwoMorrows booth. He has also offered these incentives on his Facebook Page. Check out images from the panel below.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Panel at SDCC 2014

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham SDCC 2014 Panel

On the last day of San Diego Comic Con 2014, the LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham panel was hosted by IGN’s Greg Miller and there were some surprises. TT Games’ Phil Ring and Arthur Parsons was on hand as well as some of the voice actors of the video game including Troy Baker, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Scott Porter, Dee Bradley Baker, and Josh Keaton. One surprise that wasn’t really a surprise was that Adam West was also on the panel.

During the panel, they did a recap of the new playable characters such as Bat-Cow, Booster Gold & Skeets, Hawkman, Adam West, Arkillo, Krypto, Miss Martian, Batman of Zur-En-Arrh, Blue Beetle, and Mr. Mxyzptlk. These characters were announced at the LEGO booth during SDCC by Arthur Parsons. Something new that was shown was Superboy’s outfit which is the New 52 version. The other thing that was new was the 1960’s versions of the Batman charcters like Robin, Catwoman, Batgirl, Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Alfred, and the Batmobile.

Some surprises were the LEGO Batman 3 t-shirts and posters that were given away to everyone in attendance. You were given a ticket to bring to the Fulfillment Room at the Hyatt to pick up your items. The only problem was that it was kinda hot walking outside from the convention center to the hotel. The other surprise was for 3 people who asked questions at the panel. Greg Miller had 3 of the LEGO SDCC 2014 Batmobile exclusive sets for people who had the best questions. Not only … Continue

LEGO Mixels Series 4 Revealed at SDCC 2014

LEGO Mixels Series 4 - Burnard (41532)

Series 4 of the LEGO Mixels were revealed today at San Diego Comic Con 2014. There was one character for each Tribe that was represented. Burnard (41532) has 58 pieces and looks like it could come from the Infernites Tribe. Burnard may also be a new demon-like Tribe. We also got to see Nurp-Naut (41529) which has 52 pieces and is from a new space Tribe called the Orbitonz. Finally, there was Globert (41533) who has 45 pieces and is from some sort of bat Tribe called the Glowkies. Series 4 of the LEGO Mixels will be available in February 2015.

The LEGO Movie Unikitty SDCC 2014 Exclusive Minifigure

The LEGO Movie Unikitty SDCC 2014 Exclusive

Today was the last day of San Diego Comic Con 2014 and also the last exclusive minifigure that the LEGO booth was giving away. The character that was given away was The LEGO Movie’s Unikitty however this version of her is a little different than the one found in the Cloud Cuckoo Palace (70803).

This 16 piece exclusive Unikitty uses the same exact pieces as the regular one minus 2 pieces, the face and the pink 1×3 eyebrow piece. That totals 4 exclusive pieces to this set with the 2 faces and 2 eyebrows. The faces that are included in this set can make Unikitty become Cutesykitty and Cheerykitty. She comes packaged in the usual clamshell plastic as well as an insert. The inserts for the other 2014 minifigures showed a portrait of the charcter but Unikitty’s portrait is on the back and inside the insert are the instructions of how to build her.

As you can see from the images below, when she is Cutesykitty, she has really big eyes with a sort of a worried eyebrow thing going on there. You’ve all seen how cute things look with their expressions. For Cheerykitty, she has a big smile with some raised eyebrows.

Overall, the SDCC 2014 Unikitty is a great addition to my collection and I’m glad that I was able to get all four minifigures from this year. Although this version of Unikitty is an exclusive, we may not have seen the last of her. I was in The LEGO Movie panel and … Continue

LEGO Green Lantern vs. Sinestro (76025) Officially Revealed at SDCC 2014

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Green Lantern vs. Sinestro (76025)

Today at Day 3 of San Diego Comic Con 2014, LEGO has officially revealed the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Green Lantern vs. Sinestro (76025). The set was revealed during Preview Night on Kotaku but today attendees got a first-hand look at the set.

As reported before, it will have 174 pieces and retail for $19.99 which is an awesome price point considering that fans don’t have to pay a lot of money to get the highly requested Green Lantern minifigure. One thing that is shown on Batman that was not shown in the reveal a few days ago is the printing on the wings. It seems that the wings are a printed piece but it’s hard to tell from the pics. Blame the cloudiness of case for the quality of the images. I’ll try to take some better ones tomorrow.

LEGO DC Comics Batman of Zur-En-Arrh SDCC 2014 Exclusive Minifigure

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Batman of Zur-En-Arrh SDCC 2014 Exclusive Minifigure

Day 3 of San Diego Comic Con 2014 has passed and again, I bring back home with me another exclusive LEGO minifigure for this year. Today’s minifigure was the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Batman of Zur-En-Arrh. He is a fairly obscure character from DC and was introduced in France Herron’s 1958 Batman #113 Batman – The Superman of Planet-X. Zur-En-Arrh is actually a scientist names Tlano who was inspired to play the same role as Batman from Earth. In Grant Morrison’s resurrection of Batman of Zur-En-Arrh, he is a backup personality of Bruce Wayne used in case if he was mindwiped.

On to the minifigure itself, he has the same mold as Batman except with different colors. We know that Batman works in black and sometimes in very, very dark gray but this version of Batman is the total opposite. His main color scheme is purple and red with some yellow on the arms and belt. Also note that the chest emblem is different and he wears a purple cape. He has a double-sided head with a happy expression on one side and a clenched teeth expression on the other. His accessory is a bat.

Overall, the SDCC 2014 Batman of Zur-En-Arrh is what an exclusive minifigure should be. It will probably not be produced again in an official set but since guessing what LEGO will produce in the future is a crapshoot so who knows if we’ll see him again or not. In the meantime, I’m glad that I was able to get … Continue
