Preview BrickLink’s New Facelift

BrickLink has now entered the open beta test phase for the next iteration of the website called BrickLink Facelift. In this phase, you can check out the new skin, on-site payment, and improved Search/Catalog UI.

For the new skin, there will be some color changes made to the overall site with it now sporting a light blue background instead of the usual dark green we’ve been seeing for a while. The BrickLink logo will also be changing a little with new typography.

With BrickLink Facelift, there is now on-site payment which users can now complete the checkout process without leaving BrickLink. On-site payment will be supported by Stripe and PayPal and it accepts all major debit/credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB. For PayPal, you must connect your PayPal account and enable onsite payment.

Finally, there is now a new All Items Search feature which returns the results for both Items for Sale and the Catalog Items Search.

You can check out the preview of BrickLink Facelift over at http://preview.bricklink.com/ and you can give your feedback on the news posting page. The changes are scheduled to be made sometime in June.

What Made You Get Interested in LEGO?

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now but I have a question for the readers: what made you get interested in LEGO? For me, I had LEGO when I was a kid with a basic building set plus a couple of random themed sets but then video games came into my life and I sort of abandoned it for about two decades or so. Then a few years, my friend was interested in the last wave of LEGO Harry Potter sets as a Christmas gift and just out of curiosity, I purchased the LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon (7965) for myself. After I built the set, I was instantly hooked again which took me out of the “Dark Ages” and the rest is history.

So my question for you my fellow readers is: what made you get into LEGO? To further extend the question, what is your favorite LEGO themes? I would love to hear your guys’ stories whether it be in the comments section below or or my social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Google+).

Note: The image above was from a few months ago when I hear a loud crash in my room. The sets have since relocated to a different location.

2015 LEGO Brand Retail Manager’s Conference Exclusive Minifigure

2015 LEGO Brand Retail Manager's Conference

One of the perks of working at LEGO Brand Stores is that if you’re in a management position, you sometimes get to conferences and you also get to bring some memorabilia back home with you. That’s what happened with someone’s friend in the AFOLs of Facebook page.

The OP’s friend was given the above packaged zombie minifigure by their manager who attended the 2015 LEGO Brand Retail Manager’s Conference. It appears that all the pieces of the zombie are official pieces minus the tattered yellow LEGO apron. I’ve seen some pretty cool stuff posted from these conferences but this zombie LEGO employee is probably the coolest one I’ve seen so far.

Beyond the Brick is planning on going to Brickworld Chicago for their annual coverage and the team has a Kickstarter project going to help them raise funds their DVD with exclusive coverage. • Custom minifigure by Shilo Parker from ChocoBricks Customs
  • Batman character sketch by Chris McVeigh
  • Castle and Space LEGO pop-up book by Grant Davis
  • Custom build by Tyler Clites aka Legohaulic
  • There are also various stretch goals if the project reaches a certain level which you can read more about in the link above.

Anaheim Ducks Frederik Andersen LEGO Goalie Mask

I’m not sure how many of you readers are hockey fans but the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs is well underway and the Anaheim Ducks are getting more exposure as they are in the Western Conference Finals. Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen who is a native of Denmark, which is also the home of The LEGO Group, debuted his LEGO-designed mask at the beginning of the season but people can now see more of his mask since his team is shown more in prime time and not just mostly on the west coast. NBC even did a close up look on it during the game while they were talking about Andersen. The mask was designed by DaveArt and it shows off a minifigure in a Ducks jersey building a brick wall in front of the goal. It’s cool to see a player represent something from his home country which happened to be our favorite hobby in LEGO.

Thanks to Aaron for emailing in about it. Unfortunately, my LA Kings didn’t even make the playoffs as they just came up short so that’s a bummer. I won’t jump on any bandwagons and I’ll just wait for the Kings to come back next year.

Philly Brick Fest 2015 Steel City LUG Showcase

Philly Brick Fest 2015 - Steel City LUG

Continuing with my coverage of Philly Brick Fest 2015 from a few weeks ago, I’ve been showing some of the LUGs that attended the event and displayed their LEGO MOCs with TubeLUG and PennLUG. Today, I have another showcase featuring another Pennsylvania LUG called Steel City LUG.

Steel City LUG is mainly located in Pittsburgh, hence the name “Steel City,” and they made the 5+ hour trip to Philly to represent their LUG. Like last year, they were well represented and even a few members won a couple of Rocky’s for their MOCs, including one special one called “The Lord of Games” which went to Dan Walker. Check out all the cool stuff they had displayed below.
