LEGO April Fool’s Day 2019 Roundup

April Fool’s Day came and went and as usual, there were many pranks that were done in the LEGO community including some from our fellow fan site colleagues. If you didn’t see it, we reported on the LEGO VIP Personalized Shopper Program which was a convoluted way to shop automatically using the wishlist feature. Below is a compilation of some of the things came online yesterday as part of our tradition. If you saw something that I didn’t post, let us know in the comments.

LEGO Announces VIP Personalized Shopper Program

LEGO VIP New 2019 Changes

With the announcement of some new changes coming to the LEGO VIP program starting in a few months, LEGO has also expanded on the VIP experience a bit more with the LEGO VIP Personalized Shopper Program. Essentially, this program allows shoppers to add items to their wishlist and LEGO will automatically purchase the set and ship it to you at a specified time of your choosing. This program is similar to some what some other companies do sort of like a subscription system.

At the start of the program, which should be starting this summer, there will be three plans to choose from, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each plan will be in a certain price range in which the sets chosen from your wishlist will be added to your cart and shipped out. You can check out the price ranges below.

In order for the LEGO VIP Personalized Shopper Program to work on your particular account, you’ll have to set up an automatic payment system. It will be set up to have a default credit card, PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay and payment will be deducted from that method. Also, a default shipping address is required.

Check out the press release that LEGO sent over.

LEGO VIP Program Changes Coming Soon

LEGO VIP New 2019 Changes

If you’re a LEGO VIP member, you may have received an email this morning regarding some new changes coming to the VIP program in a few months. As I reported on earlier in the month, LEGO will be implementing the digitial VIP card very soon but for those who want the physical card can still get one. I suggest doing that in case they do away with it in the future. VIP accounts has to be registered online with an email address.

As a VIP member, we already have a lot of benefits including various promotional gifts, double point events, and early access to product launches that we get throughout the year and it looks like we’ll be getting even more on top of that. In the email, they said there will be an online rewards center that will be launching to introduce a new way to spend your VIP points. There’s no other details regarding this but I’m very interested on seeing what they have in store.

In addition, VIP points will be valid for 18 months with the expiration “clock” resetting after every purchase. With the current system we have now, VIP points would expire two years after earning if they weren’t used. Essentially this change will allow your points to stay active forever if you make a LEGO purchase every one and half years and you don’t have to worry on when your points will be expiring. This was an issue because LEGO would usually send an email notifying you when the points … Continue

In a press release sent out this morning, it has been announced that Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen will be stepping down as from LEGO A/S Board of Directors. This is a planned move in which control of the company will be handed down to his son Thomas Kristiansen next month at the annual general meeting. Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen will still be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KIRKBI A/S, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the LEGO Foundation, and Chairman of the Board.

Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen steps down from the Board of Directors of LEGO A/S

Billund, Denmark, 26 March 2019 – As a natural next step in the smooth handover to thenext generation between the third and fourth generation of the Kirk Kristiansen family, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen is stepping down from the Board of Directors of LEGO A/S. Could LEGO be Switching to Shared Convention Exclusives?

LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Bust (75227)

Yesterday, the exclusive LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Bust (75227) was announced for Star Wars Celebration 2019 in Chicago and it was also announced that Target will be carrying it as well. This brings the question of has LEGO ended the idea of “con exclusives?”

As you probably know by now, LEGO has been releasing exclusive sets and minifigures at various conventions such as San Diego and New York Comic Cons as well as Star Wars Celebration which are only available at the convention or on the secondary market. Since Target will also be getting the Darth Vader Bust, that’ll allow fans who aren’t able to attend to purchase it as well.

Could this also be the start of LEGO shared exclusives similar to what other companies, like Funko, do for some of the con products where the same items will be available at various retailers but with a different sticker than the con ones. I do like this idea as fans have been voicing their displeasure of having con exclusives for years and maybe LEGO has finally listened. We’ll see once the SDCC exclusive are announced in a few months. What do you guys think?

Rumored LEGO Stranger Things Set in 2019?

Here’s a new LEGO rumor that a reader has pointed me to from Brick Fanatics that may pique your interest as they are reporting that we may see a LEGO Stranger Things set coming later this year. With Season 3 of the show coming this summer on Netflix, it’s not out of the question that a releasing a set would be a smart thing to do. Brick Fanatics is reporting that the set could include a human world location and part of the Upside Down. If this is a legit set, we’ll probably see some of the kids including Eleven, Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will.

On a similar note, a saw rumor fly by a few weeks ago but I sort of dismissed it but now Brick Fanatics also comes in with this piece of news. They’re a pretty reliable source of some of the more recent sets so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Don’t set your expectations too high if we don’t get a LEGO Stranger Things set. As will all rumors, they are just that until LEGO themselves start teasing them or officially announces it.
