LEGO Ideas UCS All Terrain Armoured Transport Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The UCS All Terrain Armoured Transport (AT-AT) by Cavegod is the latest project to get 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. It is a massive buidl and uses around 6,000 LEGO elements with a total weight of around 17 pounds.

Since the project did hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas, it will probably not be approved by the LEGO Jury due to The LEGO Group’s ongoing relationship with Lucasfilm for official LEGO Star Wars sets. This has happened before with Mb_brick’s UCS Sandcrawler from last year. Even on the official comments for 5,000 supporters, LEGO said:

While we welcome projects based on current licenses like Star Wars in the LEGO Review, please keep in mind that a project based on an existing LEGO license has a smaller chance of passing the LEGO Review than other projects.

If you’ve been wanting an AT-AT, don’t fret. The summer 2014 wave of LEGO Star Wars sets are already showing up in stores and there will be one, albeit a lot smaller, in this wave (75054). Although Cavegod’s project will probably not pass the review stage, it is still an amazing achievement just to get 10,000 supporters.

The Labyrinth Marble Maze by JKBrickworks now becomes the highest supported project on LEGO Ideas.

LEGO Ideas Exo Suit (21109) Official Box Images

21109 Exo-Suit

The new LEGO Ideas Exo Suit (21109) is still a few weeks away from the official release but a few sites are fortunate enough for get their review copies from the LEGO Community Engagement and Events (CEE) team already. I’m part of group of people who are currently waiting to get our hands on the Exo Suit on August 1st. However, I can still tease you guys with images of the box, courtesy of Brickset.

We first saw images of the box when the Exo Suit was first revealed but it was only a blurry picture and now we can clearly see it. On front of the box, we can see a few of the things that we already knew were going to be included with the set such as the Exo Suit, the two minifigures, and the turtle but on the back, it shows that we also two yellow barrels and a platform.

We’ll be doing our own review once we get the set is available next month so stay tuned for that.

LEGO Ideas Exo Suit (21109) Will Have Single Production Run

21109 Exo-Suit

With the reveal of the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit (21109), LEGO Designer Mark Stafford, aka Lego-Nabii, has been giving some insight of the set on Reddit including the development of the set and why he used certain LEGO elements. One very important thing about the set that Mark notes is:

  • This is currently a single production run – I’m not sure of the figures – but if you see it and you want it then buy it, at the moment when it’s gone it’s gone for good. Don’t be disappointed. (Not trying to do a hard sell here, this is currently the plan!)
  • At the moment the plan is for a single run. Don’t dawdle on this one! (sorry.)

What that means is that the Exo Suit (21109) will only be sold once and once LEGO has run out of stock, then that’s it. The LEGO CUUSOO Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover (21104) also had a single production run and we’ve all saw what happened with that so don’t hesitate to get it once it becomes available for purchase in August.

For some of us, we’ll be getting multiples of the set to build an army of them and given the popularity of it so far, I’m pretty sure that it will be sold out fairly quickly. There’s no mention on how many sets are produced but just to give a comparison, the Mars Curiosity Rover sold out in a matter of days here in the US. The Exo Suit will be available both on Shop@Home … Continue

LEGO Ideas Exo Suit (21109) Side-by-Side Comparison

21109 Exo-Suit

Brickset has posted a very nice image, shot by Ian Grieg (Bluemoose), of a side-by-side comparison of the original design of the Exo Suit and the official LEGO Ideas (21109) design. As you can see, the one that we’ll be getting is a little taller and it uses ball joint for the legs. The torso is roughly about the same size although the official one has a rollcage type of design for the pilot seat which I appreciate. Some things that are present in the official Exo Suit that is not on the original one are the pipes and hoses in the back which gives it a bulkier look. I also see a very interesting use of the ADU pistols.

Also note that the green Classic Space minifigures will have yellow heads and not a flesh ones. I’m definitely going to be picking up one when it’s available in August and I’m sure others may be getting multiples to build an army of them. What are your thoughts on the new Exo Suit 21109 after seeing the comparison of the two designs?

Update: Peter has uploaded a couple more images of the Exo Suit including both minifigures as well as the turtle robot.
