LEGO City Dirt Road Pursuit (60172)

It looks like LEGO is getting ready to sell the 2018 sets on Shop@Home as they have uploaded the new LEGO City Dirt Road Pursuit (60172) to their servers. It’s a Police set but it does include a new net shooter feature which I believe other 2018 City sets will have in this subtheme. There’s also some new parts that it has including a new dirt bike mold and helmet, just to name a few.

Thanks to CM4sci for the heads up.

The net-shooter is definitely new. The dirt-bike fairing looks like the one that came out around ten years ago (earliest uses I can remember were the Bane set from the original Batman theme and the Last Crusade motorcycle chase from Indiana Jones). The helmet…I’m trying to remember if the CMF paintball player had that helmet. I’m pretty sure he had a new one, but I don’t remember what it looked like.

Using that windshield for the dune buggy seems completely absurd. I feel like they would have been better off designing a roll cage instead of using that piece.

If a vehicle like that rolled over, I think the expectation is that the windshield is doomed, but the roll cage combined with the front edge of the hood provides a plane below which you shouldn’t be crushed. Much. Provided you land on flat ground and not a large tree stump or boulder or something.

You do have two options for how to tweak it. One is to just put a 1×6 black tile across the top, like the trim piece that a cloth top would attach to. The other is to swap it out for the 2x6x2 train window (comes in red and black) that has an opaque frame with trans-clear “glass”. It does have a center pillar, though, so you’d have a split front windshield like a school bus.

I don’t think the bike is new at all, looks like the old one. The helmet is hard to tell. Like Purple Dave said, it could be the paint ball mold. The grill on the red vehicle is new though. I hope the net shooter works well because that’s long overdue.

Yeah, I got a chance to take a closer look, and it doesn’t look like either the body or frame for the dirtbike are new. The helmet is, though. I compared it to the paintball helmet, and they definitely made a new mold. I know there’s a part that looks similar to the police bumper, but that does appear to be a new element.

They should have just used the paintball mold as it was fine and looks so similar. There is a grill piece, came out this year or last but it’s a rectangle. LEGO must have really liked it to give us another one.

Not that it matters to me. This is probably a $40-$50 set with 300 pieces that I’ll never buy.
