LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812) Promo Review

5

Today starts the month of September and that means we finally get the LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812) promotion that the Europeans had a few months ago. In recent months, it appears that LEGO has been focusing more on classic Space sets like the Exo Suit (21109) and Benny’s Spaceship (70816) and this little promo set just adds to it. The set contains 19 pieces and is free with purchases of $99 or more.

Box

Unlike other LEGO promotions, the box for the Classic Space Minifigure is made of a matte-like packaging material with a stud design all around. On either side of the box, there is a classic LEGO Systems logo which has a cool nostalgic feel to it.

The box opens up by sliding out the tray from the right side which shows the contents of the set: an instruction booklet and sealed bag of pieces. The tray itself also has the Classic Space logo.

Instructions Booklet

The actual instructions in the booklet are just two pages to show how to put together the spaceman and the robot. The rest of the pages is a timeline from the last 38 years of LEGO Space sets as well as some of the Space minifigures. A majority of the Space-themed sets have been well represented on the timeline.

Build

The white Spaceman minifigure is pretty much the same as the one in the Exo Suit except for the color. The helmet is not the classic one but the more modern one that you can find in sets today. The front of the torso has the iconic Space logo and that’s pretty much it. He also wears an air tank in the back.

The robot is very simple to put together and is the exact same one you get from the FX Star Patroller (6931) which is great homage to the Classic Space sets. The robot has some posability such as the head turning on the 1×2 jumper plate. The arms move up and down and can bend down with the hinge piece.

Results

Although the set is a fairly small promotional item, it makes a great addition to you LEGO collection. The packaging is super cool and what makes this promo stand out from other exclusive promos we’ve had in the past and the contents are pretty cool as well. Again, it is free with purchases of $99 or more at LEGO Stores and on [email protected]. The Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002818) set will be available until September 14 or while supplies last. If you miss out on it by then, you can probably pick it up on BrickLink or eBay.
