January 2018 LEGO Store Calendar

The January 2018 LEGO Store Calendar is now available and we can now see all the promotions and events for the beginning of the new year.

Note that the LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod that is supposed to roll over from December is not listed anywhere on the January calendar. The promotion was to run until January 14. I would suggest contacting LEGO Customer Service to see when the promotional period is before December ends.

LEGO Seasonal Christmas Build Up (40253) – Day 1

LEGO Seasonal Christmas Build Up (40253)

For the first half of last month, you could’ve gotten a free LEGO Seasonal Christmas Build Up (40253) set with purchases of $99 or more. I intentionially waited to do my review on it until we got to December because it fit more with the month. For the 2017 set, it has 254 pieces as compared to 250 from 2016.

The set comes with four un-numbered bags of parts along with a decent sized instruction booklet. There are 24 different individual builds and the idea for this set is to build the item for each day and then take apart for the next day. It may seem a little tedious but younger kids may enjoy it.

The first day of the Christmas Build Up (40253) is a nice looking pirate ship. There’s no intersting building techniques to it but the parts usage is on point. I do like how the sails are held up using the modified 1×2 plate. The ship isn’t holiday related but it’s a good nonetheless.

Ranking the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260) to Previous Modulars

LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260)

Now that the dust has settled down on the announcement of the newest modular building, the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260), let’s talk about how it matches up with the existing modulars. Many fans like the 50’s style of the building while some didn’t like how it looked as it doesn’t match up with the architectural styles of the previous buildings. Another complaint I’ve seen is the use of expressive faces the minifigures will have compared to the traditional classic smiley faces.

Compared to the previous modular buildings LEGO has released so far, how would you rank the new Downtown Diner (10260)?

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Lloyd (30609) Polybag Now Available at Target

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Lloyd (30609)

If you weren’t able to pick up The LEGO Ninjago Movie Lloyd (30609) minifigure polybag bag back in September, it seems that Target is now carrying them in stores as well as online. They are going only $2.99 each or you can get for free with a $29.99 Ninjago purchase or more.

It seems that LEGO is doing more and more of this lately where they are either selling a previous promotional item themselves or having it being sold at another retailer like Target or Toys R Us. This isn’t a bad thing, unless you’re a reseller, because it allows fans to get it again if they for whatever reason missed out on it or didn’t want to make a purchase at the time when the promo was running.

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Trailer

One of the other major reveals today, besides the announcement of the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260), was the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. Here we see a lot of things happening including more of Thanos and the Black Order who are trying to obtain the Infinity Stones.

As we know by now, there will be some LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Infinity War sets that will be coming out in conjunction with the film. I believe there will be at least six sets that will be coming out in the spring. We know that we’ll most likely be getting new variants of the characters as well as Thanos and the Black Order. I’m also interested on seeing how LEGO can improve on the Hulkbuster suit from the Age of Ultron version.

Three fourths of the way in the trailer, we see a bearded Captain America (Nomad) and Black Panther fighting some four-armed aliens. From the earlier reports, we’ll be getting them in a set and their names are roughly called Outriders but that could change.

The Avengers: Infinity War trailer was my most anticipated one for an upcoming movie. Based on previous experiences, we know that the LEGO sets based on films are a mixed bag but I’m excited about them either way, especially for the new minifigure. What are you most hoping to see with these LEGO sets?

Warning: There are some spoilers from Thor: Ragnarok so I suggest not watching the Infinity War trailer until you see the third installment of Thor.… Continue
