Disney to Air Frozen Northern Lights LEGO Animated Shorts

Disney has announced there will be four new LEGO animated shorts that will be coming to the Disney Channel based on the upcoming Frozen Northern Lights story starting in November. There will also be a TV special to present the shorts that will be airing around Thanksgiving time. The shorts will feature the original voice cast of the first Frozen movie including Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Jonathan Groff (Kristoff), and Josh Gad (Olaf).

It’s not that surprising that LEGO is teaming up with Disney again to produce content for Frozen as they’ve already released a few sets based on the popular movie.

Thanks to Jeff for the email heads-up.

LEGO Ideas Guidelines and TOS Updates

Earlier today, LEGO Ideas released a blog post with updates to the Guidelines and TOS. These new rules hopefully will weed out some projects that LEGO already has already produced based on existing IPs and such. The rules will also prevent projects that are extremely large and with no realistic way for LEGO to mass produce it. Some of the main points of the new guidelines and TOS include:

-Once we produce a LEGO Ideas set based on a third-party property, we will not accept more Ideas submissions based on that property.

-Projects must fit in a single product box, so we’re setting a part count limit of 3,000 pcs.

-Projects must focus on a single concept or third-party property.

-It’s now simpler to collaborate on projects.

-New restrictions on project contents

-New guidelines to help improve project descriptions

-Terms of Service now preserves projects that gain a significant following.

-Terms of Service revises language regarding assignment of rights.

Check out the blog post for more in-depth descriptions of these updates.

Tiny LEGO Wonders: Build 40 Surprisingly Realistic Mini-Models! Book Review

The folks over at No Starch Press has sent me an early review copy of Tiny LEGO Wonders: Build 40 Surprisingly Realistic Mini-Models! by Mattia Zamboni. The book consists of 208 pages and as the title states, instructions for 40 mini build. The book will be available on July 30 but you can pre-order now on Amazon for 30% off the list price.

The book is separated into different categories depending on what type of vehicle the builds are about such as trains, airplanes, and boats. Each build consists of a few pages which also includes the parts needed to create it. Similar to other book instructions, the construction is condensed into a few steps with multiple pieces going into each step.

I must say that some of the vehicle builds are pretty nice looking especially with a few of the cars with the small wheels. They actually give sort of a sleek look to them.

If you’re into building minimalistic cities, Tiny LEGO Wonders: Build 40 Surprisingly Realistic Mini-Models! may be a good resource for you, There are many different builds and may provide inspiration for you to create your own miniature vehicles. The words are very minimal as there isn’t that much of a need for them. The instructions may be a little confusing as they do incorporate a number of pieces for each step. The biggest offender of this are the ship builds. Other than that, I think it’s a pretty solid book.

Again, you can now pre-order the book on Amazon at … Continue
