LEGO Christmas Toy Soldier Ornament (5004420) First Look

Our friends over at PromoBricks has given a first look at this year’s LEGO Christmas Ornament which will be a Toy Soldier (5004420). The past few years, LEGO has been giving out these ornaments with through VIP shopping events for the 2014 Christmas Train (5002813) and minimum purchases for the 2015 Christmas Tree.

It looks like for this year, the Toy Soldier will be available for everyone with a minimum purchase but we’ll have to see. There’s no word on when it’ll be available here in the US but chances are it’ll be on the November or December 2016 LEGO Store Calendar.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 16 (71013) Review

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 16 (71013)

The Series 16 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71013) has been an interesting one not because of the variety of minifigures included but with the availability of them around the world. They started showing up in stores here in the US in the middle of July at LEGO Brand Stores and at other retailers. What’s interesing is that the official reveal was at the end of July after they have already began selling in stores. All in all, it’s been sort of a fiasco for the release of Series 16. Nevertheless, we have finally received a complete box from LEGO for us to review in-depth.

New LEGO Shop@Home Design Launched Worldwide

LEGO Shop@Home

If you haven’t been LEGO Shop@Home recently, you may have noticed some changes. That is because yesterday a new design has has been rolled out worldwide. Pretty much everything you’ve known and love has changed in some way.

I’ve read there are still some issues with the cart and the checkout process but hopefully that’ll be fixed soon. Also there are discount codes for various countries but it doesn’t seem to have one for the US.

Drastic change is something at people don’t really like when they first see it but maybe over time, that will change. Check out some of the features in the video below.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Rumored Set for 2017

Remember there was a rumor that we may be getting some LEGO sets based on the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales which turned out to be false? If may seem that the rumor may indeed be true. According to one of my sources, they sent me a message regarding sets based on the movie and word has it that there will only be one fairly large set, with the price range around $200-$250. It was stated that it may be one of the new pirate ships in the franchise, possibly the Dying Gull or the Silent Mary. If you’ve read up on the movie, the Dying Gull and the Silent Mary are the two new pirate ghost ships that will be featured in the film.

LEGO did a couple of ships back in 2011 for PotC: On Stranger Tides with The Black Pearl (4148) and Queen Anne’s Revenge (4195) but it’ll be cool to have another ship to add to the fleet if this rumor is true about the LEGO PotC: Dead Men Tell No Tales set. We’re still a long ways away from the premiere of the movie in May 26, 2017 but hopefully we’ll be able to get more concrete information by the end of this year or early next year.

LEGO’s Profit Falls in US in First Half of 2016

I usually don’t report on LEGO’s numbers but here’s something that’s a little interesting. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that LEGO’s net profit for the first half of 2016 has dropped by 2% as compared to 2015. If you’re talking currency, that’s DKr3.49bn ($525 million) which is a slight drop from DKr3.55bn in the same time from last year. While sales dropped here in the US, they increased by more than 10% over in Europe as well as in Asia.

LEGO’s Chief Financial Officer John Goodwin stated, “In the U.S., we acknowledge that we have not provided the initiatives and support needed to keep the same high level of growth.”

LEGO also stated that a rapid increase in the number of employees, by adding 3,500 new workers in 2016, along with investing in a factory in China has impacted profit growth.

It’s not that surprising that sales have slipped here in the US as there have been some things have happened like with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS being out of stock for a while and the first LEGO Star Wars UCS set of 2016 being fairly lackluster. Even then, I don’t see it being a big deal. With the holiday season just around the corner, LEGO looks to end the year on a high note and continue being the top toy company.
