In my second review of the Summer 2015 wave of LEGO City sets, I have the LEGO City Space Starter Set (60077). LEGO has been pushing these Starter Sets in this year’s LEGO City sets which includes a couple of small builds to help you start your City. The Space Starter Set isn’t an exception with its 107 pieces and coming in at a typical $9.99 price point. Just a note, this set is the largest, in terms of piece count, of all the smaller City Starter Sets. The contents of the box includes two un-numbered bags and one instruction booklet.
There’s something interesting that came by this morning by our chums at Brick Fanatics regarding the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Ant-Man Final Battle (76039). To summarize, a reader emailed in saying that LEGO has found an issue with the set and as a result, “all orders being held until this is rectified. Currently we envisage all deliveries happening mid June.” There was no mention of what that issue was.
Some of us in the States have already found the Ant-Man Final Battle available for purchase at various Toys R Us stores. One of our readers has purchased the set and noted that “the connector piece for the thorax is really too weak to support the bulk of the build.” They also note that his LEGO Store employee said that it “wasn’t up to quality control standards.” I even reached out to the Brick Show since Stephen did a review on it and he noted that the legs would sometimes fall over if not positioned correctly. I’m not sure if those particular things are what LEGO is referring to but it seems that it’s a wide spread problem if the company has stopped orders because of it.
What does this mean for collectors who already bought one of these early sets before the official release date of June 1st? They could be similar to what people who collect sports cards call error cards which have an unintended flaw to them and may become more valuable in the future. If you did purchase one of these early sets, … Continue
I’m not sure how many of you readers are hockey fans but the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs is well underway and the Anaheim Ducks are getting more exposure as they are in the Western Conference Finals. Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen who is a native of Denmark, which is also the home of The LEGO Group, debuted his LEGO-designed mask at the beginning of the season but people can now see more of his mask since his team is shown more in prime time and not just mostly on the west coast. NBC even did a close up look on it during the game while they were talking about Andersen. The mask was designed by DaveArt and it shows off a minifigure in a Ducks jersey building a brick wall in front of the goal. It’s cool to see a player represent something from his home country which happened to be our favorite hobby in LEGO.
Thanks to Aaron for emailing in about it. Unfortunately, my LA Kings didn’t even make the playoffs as they just came up short so that’s a bummer. I won’t jump on any bandwagons and I’ll just wait for the Kings to come back next year.
My friend John has emailed me some images of a new DK LEGO Star Wars Book Collection that was found at Costco. The bundle contains 10 different LEGO Star Wars books including:
Empire in Power
Rise of the Sith
Yoda in Exile
Fall of the Jedi
Imperial Forces
Rogues and Villians
Dooku’s Army
Rebel Alliance
Defenders of the Republic
Jedi Heroes
The LEGO Star Wars Book Collection also includes a Special Forces Commander minifigure which is the same one as in the LEGO Star Wars: the Yoda Chronicles. The whole book collection costs $21.99 but pricing may vary at your location.
Earlier today, Warner Bros released a new LEGO Dimensions trailer featuring Christopher Lloyd and the Back to the Future Doc Brown Fun Pack (71230). Clearly the focus was on the Doc Brown character but if you watched closely at the trailer at the 2:00 mark, they show a glimpse of Sauron from Lord of the Rings.
As we know by now, there wasn’t an official Sauron LEGO minifigure released when the theme was still going and many fans have been waiting for that particular minifigure. LEGO Dimensions could be a platform to release Sauron whether it be in a Fun Pack, a Team Pack, or even a Level Pack since there are already some LOTR characters already announced in the game such as Gandalf, Gollum, Gimli, and Legolas. We’ve already seen many exclusive minifigures for LEGO Dimensions that will be included in the game so I wouldn’t be that surprised if we see Sauron be added in the future.
What do you guys think? Do you think that a Sauron LEGO minifigure could be coming to LEGO Dimensions? Let me know in the comments.
Today, Warner Brothers has announced more expansion packs for LEGO Dimensions including a Back to the Future Doc Brown Fun Pack (71230) with the Traveling Time Train and complete with a full trailer featuring Christopher Lloyd himself. Note that the hair on this version of the Doc Brown minifigure is different from the one in the LEGO CUUSOO DeLorean Time Machine (21103).
Some other LEGO Dimensions Fun Packs that have been announced today include Ninjago Sensei Wu Fun Pack (71234), DC Comics Superman Fun Pack (71236), Aquaman Fun Pack (71237), Ninjago Lloyd Fun Pack (71239), and DC Comics Bane Fun Pack (71240). Also announced was a DC Comics Team Pack (71229) with The Joker and Harley Quinn minifigures and The Joker’s Chopper and the Quinn-mobile as the builds. Check out the LEGO Dimensions Back to the Future trailer as well as the full press release below.
Thanks to everyone who emailed in about this. I saw it this morning when the press release was posted but I was at my other job with no computer access.
