LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Buildable Figure (75111) Review

LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker & Darth Vader 2-in-1 Battle Pack (66536)

Earlier this year, LEGO announced that they would be releasing a new wave of LEGO Star Wars Buildable Figures. Although I’m not that into the Contstraction sets, I do love Star Wars and this news raised my interest in these sets. They are separately available for purchase but Toys R Us has a special 2-in-1 Battle Pack (66536) which includes both Luke Skywalker (75110) and Darth Vader (75111).

For this review, I’ll be taking a look at one of the most iconic movie characters of all time with Darth Vader. The TRU Battle Pack has 243 pieces and retails for $49.99 but Darth Vader himself consists of 160 pieces and retails for $29.99. One thing you may notice is the high price for the amount of pieces you get but I feel it’s comparable to what you get with the LEGO BIONICLE sets especially for a licensed theme like Star Wars. The contents of the box includes three un-numbered bags, a bagged cape, and the instruction booklet.

As shown on the box, Vader is from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi where he is dueling Luke Skywalker which you can recreate with this Battle Pack or if you got the figures separately.

Build

I’m not that familiar with Constraction sets so I’m not sure where the builds start from but with Vader, the build starts at the torso. At first glance, you probably can’t tell what you’re building until the middle of instructions when the torso is completed and the armor pieces go … Continue

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 14 Monsters (71010) Giveaway 1 Winner Announced

Do I smell a giveaway in the near future?

A few weeks ago, I ran a contest to give away a complete set of Series 14 Monsters LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71010). The contest has ended and there were over 15,000 total entries but there can only be one winner (for now). The votes are tallied and the winner is:

John L.

I’ve already sent the winner an email requesting their shipping info and such and if I don’t get a response, I’ll reroll the winner. Remember that there are three complete sets of minifigures in a box so there will be two more giveaways before the year ends with the next one being held on Halloween, October 31st since these are Monsters minifigures. Thank you to everyone who participated and a big thank you to the LEGO CEE team for sending a box in for me to be able to even do this.

From The LEGO Movie, a few familiar characters are returning with Chris Pratt being Emmet, Elizabeth Banks as Wyldsty,e Alison Brie as Unikitty, and Charlie Day as Benny.

Chris Pratt is also Owen Grady from Jurassic World along with Irrfan Khan as Simon Masrani.

From the highly anticipated Doctor Who series, Peter Capaldi is the Twelfth Doctor, Jenna Coleman is Clara Oswald, and Michelle Gomez is Missy.

From the Portal series, Stephen Merchant returns as Wheatley as well as Ellen McLain as GLaDOS.

Finally from DC Comics Super Heroes, Troy Baker is Batman and Tara Strong is Harley Quinn.

Of course these are just some of the voice actors listed in the video description but if you want to check out a bigger list of the actors, head on over to IMDB. LEGO Dimensions will be available in two weeks on September 27.

Beyond the Brick BrickCon 2015 Kickstarter Project

Our friends over on Beyond the Brick is known for their interviews of various AFOLs in the community, which I’ve had the honor to be a part of, are planning to go to BrickCon 2015 in Seattle. They haven’t had a chance to make it out there yet and they’re looking for your help to make that a reality. If you haven’t seen it yet, their coverage of BrickWorld Chicago 2015 and BrickFair Virginia 2015 were top notch as usual and they hope BrickCon 2015 will be the same or better.

They’ve set up a Kickstarter with some cool pledge rewards including a digital copy of the BrickCon 2015 DVD at the $15 level and up, custom Smurf minifigures, and custom builds. Plus there are some stretch goals if they make it past their original goal.

Head on over to the Kickstarter project to show your support and if you’re attending BrickCon next month, you might even see yourself in the the DVD when it comes out.
