LEGO Store Exclusive 2014 Holiday VIP Shopping Event Results

LEGO 2014 Holiday VIP Shopping Event

Earlier today was the LEGO Store Exclusive 2014 Holiday VIP Shopping Event at my local store. When you got in, you were handed an exclusive access double-sided badge and it also includes your name which is pretty neat. You were also given a bag filled with some FREE sets including the Thanksgiving Turkey (40091) and the exclusive Christmas Train Ornament (5002813).

Other than that, all the offers are the same as online for VIPs who didn’t get an invite. I’ll be doing a review of the Christmas Train Ornament in a separate post.

Overall, it was a pretty cool event with some nice freebies. I also got to meet up with a lot of friends in the process and the store employees were awesome as usual. Since I already have the Thanksgiving Turkey (40091) set, I’ll probably be giving it away in a future contest. The Ornament was a nice addition and unexpected since I’ve read about it but didn’t know how to get it.

There’s no official word on how people are selected to these VIP shopping events but I’ve heard people say that it was for high spenders at the store.

LEGO Billund Airport (4000016) Set Details

4000016 1

If you’re heading to Billund, Denmark for whatever reason in the future, there may be something that could be of interest to you. Promo Bricks has information on the new LEGO Billund Airport (4000016) which is an exclusive to only the company’s home country. The set itself is made into the Architecture-style and consists of 281 pieces which retails for €54/399.96 dkr/$68.

The exclusivity of the set is that it is only available in the LEGO Store at the Billund Airport which is located in the departure hall. As a result, only passengers who fly out of Billund are able to purchase the 4000016 set. Adding to the exclusivity, there are only 10,000 of these sets available so most of us probably won’t be able to get it for our collection unless you go to the secondary market like eBay. Also, the designer of the LEGO Billund Airport (4000016), Lennart Cort, still works at the LEGO Store there and he can sign your set if you request it.

As an eBay Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

So who’s going to Billund soon and is able to pick me up a set?

LEGO Ideas Lord of the Rings Set: Minas Tirith Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The Lord of the Rings Set: Minas Tirith by NujuMetru is the latest project to hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. We’ve had plenty of LEGO LOTR sets in past but there were still many scenes in the trilogy that hasn’t been created yet including Minas Tirith. Not only is the project at a reasonable size, it also has plenty of minifigures and play features.

THe project now joins the Avengers Helicarrier, the Labyrinth Marble Maze, the F7A, The Goonies 30th Anniversary Inferno, and The Natural History Museum as the projects that are qualifed for the Third 2014 Review Stage. It looks like the LEGO Jury will have their hands full with all of these great projects.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes UCS Avengers Helicarrier Confirmed?

LEGO Marvel UCS Super Heroes UCS Helicarrier?

Earlier today, we revealed the official images for the LEGO Creator Detective’s Office (10246) and there was something interesting in the designer video. Last month, we exclusively reported that there could be a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes UCS Avengers Helicarrier coming in 2015. In the new video, inside the letter G, it looks like Marcos Bessa is doing a designer video for the set. In the image, you can kind of see the Avengers Helicarrier and a small Quinjet right above the landing platform. It looks like LEGO is giving out clues that the set will be coming next year.

Thanks to everyone who emailed in about it and the keen eyes in the Brickset Forum who saw it.

Update: Rüsseltier over on Brickset gave some more details of the UCS Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. They note that the set will be available sooner than we first thought. Before, we first reported that it could be a Summer 2015 set but apparently it will be available on March 1st with set number 76042 and retail for $349.99. Great news for LEGO fans but sad news for our wallets.

Philly Brick Fest 2015 LEGO Fan Festival Announcement

I am happy to announce that Philly Brick Fest 2015 will be returning to the Philadelphia Expo Center April 23 – 26, 2015.

As many of you know may or may not know, Philly Brick Fest was the first LEGO convention I ever attended and it was worth the trip. I hope to attend again this year to cover the event, so stay tuned for updates on my travel plans.

LEGO conventions like Philly Brick Fest give FOLs – Fans of LEGO an opportunity to come together as a community under one roof. Convention activities include playing fun LEGO games, learning new building techniques from other builders, and of course seeing the amazing creations.

Some of my favorite games during the private days from last years event included the Minifigure Identification Game, and Bowling for Bricks which was a relay race where we built a LEGO set and played a game of bowling at the same time. There were also seminars from Alice Finch, Kevin Hinkle from the LEGO CEE Team, and Clutch (Chris Byrne) gave a talk about running one of the largest US-based Bricklink stores, Bricks On The Dollar.

Then came the MOCs and collaborative LUG layouts. PennLUG, SteelCityLUG, ColonialLUG, and DelVaLUG each had their own layouts. PennLUG touted the largest train layout in their club’s history and other layouts included a Moonbase, Explorian Fleet, and more. In addition to the collaborative displays, there were also loads of stand-alone creations. Here is the link to my Flickr stream from last years event.
