Full LEGO Booth Details at San Diego Comic Con 2014

LEGO has sent out a press release giving all the details on what will be going on at the LEGO booth (#2829) at San Diego Comic Con 2014 from more exclusive reveals to statues that you can take pictures with. For the first time, attendees will have access to a free build area but this year, they can take their creations home. There are also some details on which exclusive minifigures will be given out on which days. If you aren’t able to attend SDCC 2014, you will have a chance to win the minifigures by following LEGO on Twitter. Read the the full press release below my summary.

LEGO Star Wars

The celebrate 15 years of LEGO Star Wars, LEGO will be showcasing every LEGO Star Wars minifigure ever created which is over 600 in total. There will also be a remote-controlled life-size model of LEGO Chopper from Star Wars Rebels. The press release also notes there will be an unveiling of a 2015 LEGO Star Wars set which I can pretty much say is the UCS Slave I (75060). Finally, the limited mini version of The Ghost will be for sale for $39.99

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes

To celebrate the 75th anniversay of Batman, LEGO will have a life-size model of the Batcycle and sidecar from the classic TV series. More Details of SDCC 2014 Exclusive LEGO Minifigure Giveaway Process

Ace over at FBTB has now confirmed a majority of the details on how LEGO will be giving away their exclusive minifigures at San Diego Comic Con 2014. We knew of some of the details a few days ago such as the staff using an iPad for the ticketing process and attendees entering once a day.

The giveaways start at 12:30pm in the Sails Pavilion. There will be multiple iPads stations so the you can choose which one you want to test your luck on. If you are a winner, you will be going to another line to claim whatever prize that day is for. If you’re not a winner, you can try again the next day. There will be about 1,750 of each minifigure given out each day which is a lot more than last year so your chances of winning are a lot higher. Children’s badges don’t have barcodes so you will need a parent to be there with them. Both the parent and child can enter too with the parent’s badge scanned twice.

After seeing these details, I’m even more satisfied with the changes from last year. Since there are 1,750 minifigures given away each day, everyone’s chances just got higher. People (scalpers) who put it on the aftermarket probably won’t be getting much for them and they’re probably be more affordable for people who can’t attend SDCC. So I guess all the changes is almost a win-win situation for everybody.

San Diego Comic Con 2014 LEGO DC Comic Book Image

InsideSmall

LEGO Comic Artist Paul Lee has posted a few images of the exclusive DC Comics Super Heroes comic book that you can get from LEGO at San Diego Comic Con 2014. Paul is scheduled to be doing a signing at the LEGO Booth (#2829) on Saturday, July 26th at 5pm so you can get your copy signed by him as well along with writer Rachel Lareau.

As you can see, there are a number of DC Comics characters that aren’t official minifigures yet. As we reported before, there will again be four exclusive minifigures that will be given away this year. Three of them have already been revealed: The Collector, Unikitty, and Bard the Bowman. The last minifigure hasn’t been revealed at of this writing but it was mentioned that it will be a character from DC Comics. Could this minifigure be one of the characters shown above? We shall see in the next few days.

Note: Paul states, “I have had no advanced knowledge of the minfig exclusives for Comic-con. The depictions of characters and choices of characters were entirely based on personal preference and aesthetics.” Although the exclusive will be a DC character, it doesn’t mean that it will be based on Paul’s drawings.

LEGO Shredder Statue at San Diego Comic Con 2014

San Diego Comic Con 2014 - LEGO Shredder

LEGO has revealed another statue that you can expect to see at San Diego Comic Con 2014 this week, Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He stands at a whopping 7 feet high and is 36 inches wide. It took builders 35,322 LEGO pieces to create and it weighs in at 174 lbs. With something so massive, it took 269 hours or 11 days to build from start to finish. Shredder will be display at the LEGO Booth (#2829) and you can take a picture with it along with many other statues there.

LEGO Ninjago: The Visual Dictionary Minifigure Revealed

A few months ago, we reported that there will be some new books from Dorling Kindersley and one of these books is the LEGO Ninjago: The Visual Dictionary. Like with many LEGO DK books, there will be an exclusive minifigure included with the book. Unfortunately with this book, there will not be any new exclusive minifigures but one that is already out in a set. As you can see below, the limited edition minifigure that is included is Zane Rebooted which is already in the Destructoid (70726) set.

With DK, we usually see minifigures that we haven’t seen before like Emperor Palpatine in LEGO Star Wars: The Dark Side and Luke Skywalker in LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary: Updated and Expanded, even though we’ve seen him before but he has updated printing. But with Zane, he’s the exact same one that was in a set so it’s sort of a head-scratcher as to why this minifigure was chosen. I would’ve been happy with even the Brown Ninja.

The LEGO Ninjago: The Visual Dictionary is set to be released on September 15th but you can pre-order the book now on Amazon.

Introducing Monster’s Marvel Mixel Masterpieces – The Sentinel Series

Monster's Marvel Mixel Masterpieces

With San Diego Comic Con 2014 around the corner, many people are building things to commemorate the event like Jason Daubert who built a number of pop cultural characters as CubeDudes. Another member of SandLUG, Matt Armstrong, aka MonsterBrick, has created some comic book characters with LEGO as part of his “Monster’s Marvel Mixel Masterpieces – The Sentinel Series.”

These characters are created by using the new LEGO Mixels joints and well as some building features of the Sentinel from the LEGO Marvel X-Men vs. The Sentinel (76022). Click through to see larger images of these cool creations. Don’t worry Matt, I’ll try to make it to the LUG meetings one of these days.
