New LEGO Store Build-A-Minifigure Bar Elements

LEGO Build-A-Minifigure Bar

In addition to the new elements in the LEGO Pick-A-Brick Wall, the Build-A-Minifigure bar at the LEGO Stores also recently got some new items as well. Yesterday while I was checking out the very cool SDCC-themed community window, I also took a look at some of the new offerings at the minifigure bar.

A couple of things that may be new to the bar are some random torsos and legs from the Collectible Minifigures line. For the torsos, there were the Fitness Instructor from Series 5, the Hippie from Series 7, and even the vendor from the Balloon Cart (40108) polybag. For the legs, the selection included the Pop Star and Weightlifter from Series 2, the Hazmat Guy from Series 4, and the Boxer from Series 5.

A new piece that is available for the first time that I know of is the ghost shroud with open mouth. This pieces takes the place of the hair/hat piece so if you want some more ghosts in your collection, here’s another way to get some. The other new piece is for the accessory and that is the light bluish grey trophy cup. There are also capes but I’m not sure if they have been offered before or not.

Overall, there are some pretty cool pieces that are now available at the Build-A-Minifigure bar. These pieces may have shown up previously as I don’t frequent the bar that much when I go to the store but I have been informed that the Ghost and trophy pieces … Continue

LEGO DK Publishing at San Diego Comic Con 2014

DK San Diego Comic Con 2014

DK Publishing will be coming to San Diego Comic Con 2014 and Jason Fry, author of the LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary: Updated and Expanded, will be there for some book signings and giveaways. He will at the DK Star Wars Booth #2913G in the LucasFilm pavilion on Friday, July 25 from 1-2pm and Saturday, July 26 from 11-12pm and from what I remember, he will have some of his trading cards to give away to attendees as well. Be prepared for a crowd near the booth since it’s right there with all the Star Wars props and people wanting to take pictures with it.

Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary Panel at San Diego Comic Con 2014

TwoMorrows Publishing and BrickJournal will be back again this year for San Diego Comic Con 2014 with a panel taking a look behind the scenes of Beyond the Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary. The panel will include Joe Meno (BrickJournal) as the moderator along with Oscar-nominated director Kief Davidson, producer Brendan Kiernan, as well as our good friend Tommy Williamson (BrickNerd). The panel will be held on Saturday, July 26th from 5-6pm in Room 23ABC. I’ll be there to take pictures and notes so for those who aren’t able to attend, you’ll at least be able to see what went on at the panel.

TwoMorrows Publishing and BrickJournal magazine present a behind the scenes look at a new LEGO documentary released at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Moderated by Joe Meno (editor of LEGO fan magazine BrickJournal), this panel will include one of the film’s directors, Oscar-nominated Kief Davidson, producer Brendan Kiernan, and stop-motion filmmaker Tommy Williamson (www.Bricknerd.com).

San Diego Comic Con 2014 LEGO Store Community Window

Fashion Valley LEGO Store Community Window

San Diego Comic Con 2014 is upon us and my LEGO Store in Fashion Valley has gotten into the mood as well with their latest community window change out. This month’s window is centered towards the geekiness that is Comic Con with contributions by fellow SandLUG members Jason and Mariann. Jason, known for his CubeDudes creations, has built a number of pop culture characters from different TV series and movies including Batman: The Animated Series, Doctor Who, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Avengers, and Star Wars. If you look closely, you can also see Baymax from the upcoming Walt Disney animated movie, Big Hero 6. As you can see, he has done an amazing job on all the characters and it shows with a bit of imagination and creativity, you can build almost anything.

Mariann’s contribution to the window is her mosaic portrait of Doctor Who’s 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. In this type of mosaic, she is able to capture the portrait using the sides of the LEGO elements rather than the traditional studs up method of creating a mosaic. You can check out how Mariann created the portrait on her Flickr where she shows a blueprint of the complicated process. I’ve seen images of the mosaic before but to see it in person makes it even cooler.

If you’re going to be here for SDCC 2014, I highly recommend checking out the community window at the LEGO Store here in Fashion Valley Mall. You can easily take the trolley from the convention center … Continue

World War B Takes Over LEGO

Adult Swim on YouTube has posted a very funny LEGO stop-motion video from Robot Chicken called World War B showing what would go on if off-brand blocks, who have a taste for LEGO blood, took over the world. The video makes fun of a number of building block brands and was inspired by what went on in the movie World War Z. Take a couple of minutes and watch this humorous video. There’s no mentioning of who did the animation but they did an awesome job on it. View discretion is advised.

Update: I’ve been informed that the animation was created by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.
