LEGO CUUSOO BTTF – Jules Verne Train Achieves 10,000 Supporters

The BTTF – Jules Verne Train by Team BTTF becomes the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO. It now joins the LEGO Bird Project and the Modular Apple Store in the review stage on May 5th. Coincidentally, Jules Verne is also the first train-type project to get 10,000 supporters. The Train was seen at the very end of Back to the Future III when Doc Brown along with his family, Clara, Jules, and Verne, comes back from the Old West to visit Marty and Jennifer.

The Jules Verne Train is now the third project by Team BTTF to achieve this feat along with their DeLorean-Time-Machine (21103) as well as the UCS DeLorean Time Machine. By getting the required amount of supporters on this project shows that LEGO fans, especially AFOLs, appreciate projects that are based on things we are familiar with and all grew up with such as the Back to the Future movies.

Congratulations yet again to Team BTTF for reaching their goal! The Invisible Hand now becomes the highest supported project on CUUSOO.

Congratulations on 10,000 supporters, m.togami!

Congratulations on reaching 10,000 supporters for yet another fantastic Back to the Future model. This train engine is beautifully built and has so much character. It really captures what must be the second most iconic vehicle from the Back to the Future trilogy.

We now officially advance this project to the Review phase.

What happens now?
This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A “LEGO Review Board”

LEGO CUUSOO Now Accepting Doctor Who Projects

LEGO CUUSOO has updated the License Conflicts and Resolutions section of their Knowledge Base and something interesting has surfaced. Before today, projects on CUUSOO that were based on Doctor Who themes may have been turned down or rejected due it having conflict with other companies who had the license to produce Doctor Who products such as Character Building. We can now report that LEGO CUUSOO now welcomes projects based on Doctor Who which probably means that Character Building does not have the license anymore. Does this also mean that we could maybe possibly see Doctor Who sets in the future? Who knows but at least people can now submit projects based on the very popular TV show and can hope that it will pass the review stage to become an official CUUSOO set!

LEGO Non-Stop Trailer by Brotherhood Workshop

As we all know, guys over at Brotherhood Workshop makes some pretty awesome stop-motion videos. Recently, they have released a new video featuring a LEGO trailer of the movie Non-Stop starring Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore which hits theaters on February 28. Check out the trailer below as well as a split-screen version and a behind the scenes version.

Global action star Liam Neeson stars in Non-Stop, a suspense thriller played out at 40,000 feet in the air. During a transatlantic flight from New York City to London, U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks (Neeson) receives a series of cryptic text messages demanding that he instruct the airline to transfer $150 million into an off-shore account. Until he secures the money, a passenger on his flight will be killed every 20 minutes.

The LEGO Group Looking To Replace ABS Plastic by 2030

A few days ago, Plastics News has reported that The LEGO Group has started their search to find a new sustainable resin to replace the existing ABS the company currently uses for their bricks by 2030. LEGO Senior Project Manager states, “I need to find a material that is just as good as this one. I need to find a material that will be just as good in 50 years, because these are passed down from generation to generation.”

Currently, the company has been testing bricks with an impact modified polylactic acid but this new test is not as promising yet. The issue with it is that a few weeks after molding, the bricks do not stay together as good as the traditional process does. One of the ways that LEGO measures the quality of the bricks is by testing the “clutch power.” A reason why these new bricks are failing the standards is because the machines that test the bricks are not compatible with the new materials.

LEGO uses more than 6,000 tons of plastic every year with 70% of the materials being Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and it now wants to be more efficient in using the new materials which should benefit the company financially and environmentally.

Check out more details on what LEGO is planning to do in the near future in the article. Also, if you haven’t watched National Geographic’s Mega Factories episode of LEGO before, I highly recommend watching it below. Although the video is fairly old now, it’s still … Continue

LEGO Minifigure Graduation Set Found

Graduation set

Flickr user AC Pin has found a new Graduation Set at their local LEGO Store. This new set is similar to the current Minifigure Birthday Set (850791) and Wedding Favor Set (853340) with a baseplate, a banner, a minifigure-scale arch, and stickers. The Graduation Set contains one minifigure wearing a graduation gown and cop standing at the podium. He looks similar to the Graduate minifigure from the Series 5 Collectible Minifigures. The arch shows some books and caps thrown in the air. The set contains 30 pieces but there was no mention of the price. I’m assuming it will have the same price as the other minifigure sets at $9.99 each. This set is perfect for people who are graduating this spring as well as in the future.
