LEGO CUUSOO Firefly Serenity Playset Rejected

The LEGO Jury has made a quick decision on the Firefly Serenity Playset by tbone_tbl. They have decided not to move forward with the production because it did not fit with the target consumer of LEGO products which are children. Although it was cool looking, I figured that it might not pass the review stage. Even so, congratulations to tbone_tbl for making it this far. Below is the official statement from LEGO.

**Update: A company by the name of Etadyne Industries LLC is selling the playset on their site.**

Congratulations on 10,000 supporters! Here is our decision on the IP’s fit with the LEGO brand.

2012.05.08

First and foremost, huge congratulations to tbone_tbl for reaching 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO, and toward everyone for all of the support of the Firefly Serenity Playset project!

LEGO CUUSOO gives the opportunity for adult LEGO fans to submit product ideas. You submit some incredible things, and we’re huge fans of all of your work. This is a beautiful model and a skilled rendition of the beloved Serenity built with LEGO bricks.

When reviewing projects for production, the LEGO Jury first looks at how the concept fits the LEGO brand. We learned the IP was questionable regarding a brand fit, and since we anticipated this project reaching 10,000 the team got a head start and reviewed the project on these criteria.

LEGO produces toys for children. Therefore all LEGO products, regardless of age target, must be content-appropriate for this core audience. With this in mind we have decided that

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 7 – Ocean King

The Ocean King resembles Neptune from Roman mythology or Poseidon from Greek mythology. The main feature of him is his green, scaly Merman tail. His crown is attached to his white hair. He also has the same white beard as Sensei Wu from the Ninjago series. His accessory is the mighty trident which the God of the Sea is known to carry. If you have any the Atlantis set, you can possibly use the Ocean King as their deity. To locate him, feel for the bulky tail piece and the trident.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 7 – Galaxy Patrol

The first of the many minifigures in Series 7 that I really wanted was the Galaxy Patrol. He looks similar to the Space Marine in the Starcraft series with the dark blue color scheme. He has a double-sided face with one side having the normal face and the other with his visor on. His accessories include a jetpack armor with the Classic Space symbol on both sides of the shoulderpads as well as blaster gun. The printing on the torso looks amazing although only the front is printed. The legs also have some printing. Overall, the Galaxy Patrol is one of the best minifigs in Series 7 and is one in the series where you would want an army of. To find this figure in the pack, you’ll find that it’s kind of bulky which is the armor piece. Confirm this by feeling for the gun as well.

LEGO CUUSOO Firefly Serenity Playset Achieves 10000 Supporters

People are really putting their support for the sets on LEGO CUUSOO. This time, the Firefly Serenity playset by tbone_tbl has achieved the 10000 supporters needed for LEGO to consider it as an official set to be made into production. The ship is based on the 2005 movie of the same name. The next step now is to wait for The LEGO Jury to review the set in June and to see if the set is viable for production. There are many factors that play into this decision such as design, niche, licensing, sales, etc. One thing to note is that, the Serenity doesn’t really fit into any existing LEGO sets so that might play a big role in determining the outcome.

LEGO CUUSOO The Legend of Zelda Achieves 10000 Supporters

In less than a week, another set has reached the 10000 supporters needed for LEGO CUUSOO to consider it for production. The latest set to get this achievement is The Legend of Zelda. We here at The Brick Fan like to congratulate Mingles for this accomplishment. Now the project will continue to the review phase in which the LEGO Jury will decide if they will decide if the set is viable set for the public. One obstacle is the licencing because The Legend of Zelda is a Nintendo product and Nintendo already has an agreement with another “building” company, K’Nex. We will see in the upcoming months if this set will pass review and be produced worldwide. This set has the potential to be the parent of other sets due to the vast world of The Legend of Zelda and the possibilities it provides.

We’ve keenly watched the support for this project from fans of the legendary video game series. You’ve made it at last, thanks to the broader community of Legend of Zelda fans. Congratulations!

Also, you built a very nice set design for the finale from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It’s a great response to our request from the comment we made for 5,000 supporters. This gives the concept some focus and something from which our team can work.

What happens now?
This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A “LEGO Jury” composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. … Continue
