LEGO DUPLO Celebrates 50 Years

LEGO DUPLO 50th Anniversary

Today LEGO celebrates the 50th anniversary of the LEGO DUPLO line. A majority of you may have played with DUPLO while growing up and it’s an accomplishment that this theme has stood the test of time. LEGO has sent over a press release for the 50th anniversary of LEGO DUPLO has well as a couple of infographics about theme which you can check out below.

50 Years Young

Celebrating half a century of big building fun with LEGO®DUPLO®

BILLUND, January 29, 2019:Today we mark 50 years since theLEGO Group unveiled its inaugural large brick for small hands (yes that would be 1969) – the same year the first person set foot on the moon. You can decide which was the bigger moment for mankind (although could Apollo 11 be dismantled and rebuilt into a racing car?) but, either way, below are some highlightsfromhalf a century of big building fun.

Ludamus! A Latin origin
Did you know the nameDUPLO®derives from the Latin word ‘duplex’meaning double? The name first featured on two LEGO® DUPLO sets launched in 1969 – set no. 510 and no. 511 if you like specifics.

And did you know that LEGODUPLO bricks are twice the size of classic LEGO bricks on all dimensions? This is so all our bricks fit into the LEGO System in Play, but finding this 2:1 scale solution was no easy task.We tried both 4:1 and 3:1 scale before Godtfred Kirk Christiansen – second generation LEGO Group owner -in 1968 came up with the idea (during his sleep!) to hollow the

The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s ‘Piece’ Offering (30340) Polybag Review

The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet's 'Piece' Offering (30340)

If you went to the early screening of The LEGO Movie 2 yesterday, some theaters gave out a polybag along with your purchase which was Emmet’s ‘Piece’ Offering (30340). It has 44 pieces and if you didn’t get one, they are available for purchase at Target and Walmart.

The Emmet minifigure shows him with his tattered uniform and he has a double-sided head with a happy expression on one side and an angry look on the other. This version of Emmet is also in Emmet and Benny’s ‘Build and Fix Workshop’ (70821).

The build is very simple and the result is of a heart. I didn’t go see the screening as I had a prior engagement before it was announced so I have no idea what the heart represents but I do have an idea.

The Emmet’s ‘Piece’ Offering (30340) polybag isn’t as cool as the other polybags for The LEGO Movie 2 but if you’re a collector and/or a completionist, you’ll probably want to pick this one up as well. Again, this polybag is also available at Walmart at the LEGO section and at Target either at the Valentine’s section or at the checkout lanes and is priced at $3.99.

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Pig (40186) Promotion Starting Soon

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Pig (40186)

Chinese New Year is only two weeks away and to celebrate the event, LEGO will be releasing the LEGO Seasonal Year of the Pig (40186) set in a few days. From what I’m hearing, the promotion will be starting on January 28 at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home and you can get it for free with purchases of $88 or more. This will be the fifth of the zodiac animals that have been released in this style and the sixth overall if you count the Year of the Snake (10250). We didn’t know the release of this set beforehand because LEGO doesn’t promote their gift-with-purchase items on the store calendars anymore so it’s hard to plan your purchases.

Rumored LEGO Star Wars 20 Years Set List

LEGO Star Wars 20 Years

Earlier this month, I reported that we will be getting some 20th Anniversary sets for LEGO Star Wars in April and some of the sets that were rumored were the Slave I (75243) and Anakin’s Pod Racer (75258). PromoBricks has reported some other rumored sets in the wave and the list now consists of:

Slave I (75243) – 1007 pieces
Anakin’s Pod Racer (75258) – 279 pieces
Snowspeeder (75259) – 309 pieces
Clone Scout Walker (75261) – 250 pieces
Imperial Dropship (75262) – 125 pieces

They have also reported that each set will come with an exclusive LEGO Star Wars minifigure with a printed plate. Those characters include Leia Organa (75243), Luke Skywalker (75258), Lando Calrissian (75259), Darth Vader (75261) and Han Solo (75262). I’m not sure how those characters relate to the sets as they don’t even correspond to the sets.
