Philly Brick Fest Early Registration Now Live

Early registration for Philly Brick Fest 2019 is now live and there’s only a few days left to do so at a discounted rate. From now until November 10, full registration for the event is $78 which includes special event opening ceremonies, a brick badge, goodie bag, display space for your LEGO creations, and more.

From the looks of it, I will be attending again next year and it will be my fifth year attending in total. If everything goes according to plan, I’ll be bringing The Brick Fan brick badges to give away to those who find me. I couldn’t get them in time for this year’s event. Just an insider tip if you’ve never been, there’s lots of activities there that is well worth the registration price and the event creators go out of their way to accommodate you.

LEGO FORMA Officially Sold Out

The Indiegogo campaign for LEGO FORMA has officially ended as all of the perks that were offered have been claimed with a few hours left over. The campaign was 1,334% above the 500 perk goal as there were 6,673 perks claimed. I’m not sure how that number came to be as the total number of perks that were available were 6,505. We now have to wait a few months for the delivery of the sets which is estimated to be sometime in January 2019.

LEGO has announced that they will be launching the first elementary school STEAM classes for Chinese students starting next year. In order to do that, they will also be launching some region exclusive sets in China to celebrate the Lunar New Year and it will be the first time that the company has done that for a specific country. You can read the full press release in the link above. Note that the image was provided in the press release and it has a confidential watermark.

We are proud of the close collaborations with local educators as we combine our global experiences and the local insights together to ensure that our first STEAM courses for Chinese students can contribute to the Chinese society’s growing needs of innovative talents with creative skills.”

The new sets celebrate iconic new year traditions. Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner shows a Chinese family reuniting to celebrate the lunar new year in a traditional home. Often performed during Chinese New Year, Dragon Dance is a symbol of the Chinese culture and is believed to bring good luck to people. The Dragon Dance set features a team of dragon dancers, with a minifigure dressed as a cute pig celebrating the coming Chinese New Year of the Pig.

The LEGO Group Announces Infringement Case Win Against LEPIN

LEGO has officially announced the results of the lawsuit against LEPIN in China. The Chinese courts have ruled in favor of The LEGO Group against four companies who infringed on multiple copyrights. According to the press release, the four companies, Shantou Meizhi Model Co., et al, are accountable for copying artwork for 18 LEGO sets and minifigures as well as using unfair competition acts. The courts have ruled that those companies will pay LEGO about RMB 4.5 million in damages. Check out the full press release below.

[su_quote]November 5, 2018: The LEGO Group today received a favourable decision from the Guangzhou Yuexiu District Court against four companies who infringed multiple copyrights of the LEGO Group and conducted acts of unfair competition by producing and distributing LEPIN building sets. It is another significant legal victory in China for the LEGO Group in its battle against imitators over the past two years.

According to the decisions issued by the court, the four defendants, Shantou Meizhi Model Co., Ltd., et al, are liable for copying the 3-dimensional artworks of 18 LEGO® sets, multiple LEGO Minifigures, as well as for carrying out unfair competition acts.

The court ordered, among other things, that the four defendants shall immediately cease producing, selling, exhibiting or in any way promoting the infringing products, and shall pay the LEGO Group approximately RMB 4.5 million as damages.

Niels B. Christiansen, Chief Executive Officer of the LEGO Group said:

“We welcome the court’s ruling. We believe these decisions are well-founded in the facts and the law, and … Continue

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary (71042) Amazon Sale

The LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary (71042) is currently on sale over on Amazon for $149.99 which is 25% off the regular price of $199.99. This is probably the last time that you’ll see this set at this low of a price because from what I’m hearing, it’ll be retiring soon. This is also the last time that you’ll find a Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow minifigure for a set that is still available at retail because there are reports that Disney might be rebooting the franchise without Depp at the helm. Even if that report isn’t true, it sounds like he is done with the character.

Note that this set is sold by Amazon and not a third-party seller. Shipping is stated that will be within 1-3 months but they’ll usually ship it before then.

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Advent Calendar (75213) Sale

As we’re getting closer to Christmas, the LEGO Star Wars 2018 Advent Calendar (75213) is finally on sale at some retailers. The new Target ad shows it is 10% off and is priced at $35.99. Amazon and Walmart has them one upped just a tiny bit with a 15% off discount and it goes for $33.99. If you have a REDcard at Target you get an additional 5% off so the price is pretty much the same after everything is said and done. Thank you to Eric for the heads up.
