LEGO April Fool’s Day 2020 Roundup

As you may have known, yesterday was April Fool’s Day and we continued the tradition of putting out light-hearted jokes on the LEGO community with the LEGO Star Wars Statues. Some of you may have picked it up early when you saw there was an Admiral Ackbar statue for some reason.

Other LEGO fan media sites also joined in the fun but it was a bit more subdue this year because of what’s happening around the world. Below are some of the other LEGO April Fool’s jokes for this year.

LEGO Launches New Initiatives to Support Children and Families Impacted by COVID-19

With the COVID-19 situation still not slowing down any time soon, LEGO has announced two new initiatives that will hopefully help children and families around the world. First they are donating $50 million to support children most in need and ensure they continue to have access to learning through play which helps develop life-long skills. Next they have launched the Let’s Build Together campaign to come up with new ways to provide fun, play-based learning ideas to children and parents. It may not seem like much but anything helps during this time.

With many families staying at home and millions more facing job, food, and medical insecurity, the LEGO Foundation and the LEGO Group have joined forces to address the critical needs of children in these unprecedented times.

We have created two important initiatives to aid all children – from the most vulnerable in refugee camps and war-torn countries to those waiting out a community quarantine.

The first initiative is a US$50 million donation by the LEGO Foundation to support children most in need and ensure they continue to have access to learning through play which helps develop life-long skills. The donation will be split between three groups of partners. They are: Education Cannot Wait, which provides education for children caught in emergencies and protracted crises; a selection of existing LEGO Foundation partners whose work with children and families is under additional pressure from COVID-19; and charity partners serving communities where the LEGO Group has a significant presence. Our aim is to urgently reach crisis-affected children

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Announces New TT Games Studio Head

This is not LEGO news directly but Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced Michael Denny as the Vice President and Studio Head of TT Games. He will be oversee strategy, execution and business operations for all TT Games offices and its portfolio of titles, including the best-selling LEGO videogame franchise. He will also introduce a new vision for the company which should be good news.

Maybe with this new appointment, Denny will bring new ideas to the table including new ideas to the already popular LEGO video games. After playing through the last few, they do get somewhat repetitive but the stories for them are top notch.

As we all know by now, the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video is their next big project and we basically haven’t heard of any new information since June and there hasn’t even been a release date announced for it. It is supposedly coming out this year but with the whole pandemic situation, I won’t be surprised if it gets delayed.

Will Arnett Hints at LEGO Masters Season 2

If you watched the last episode of LEGO Masters, there was a hint at something that may be happening later this year or next year. Before the judging, Mark & Boone decided to use their Golden Brick because it was the last time they were going to be able to use it.

When Will receives the brick, he makes a statement that some of you may have caught. He said to the brick, “As far as you are concerned, I see you again next season.” This may suggest that will see another season of LEGO Masters next year. Of course this was filmed last year before the pandemic so we’ll see if anything changes in terms of casting and filming later this year.

What do you guys think? Are you excited to see another season of LEGO Masters here in the US and will you be signing up for it?

LEGO AFOL Certification in Reward Center

If you’re a member of a LUG, there are some exclusive events throughout the year at LEGO Brand Stores called AFOL Shopping Day. During these events, you can get discounts on items, gifts, etc. and it is just a thank you from LEGO for being an AFOL.

In the LEGO Reward Center, there is a special download for an AFOL Certification Reward Block to signify that you are in a LEGO User Group. It costs zero points and you can use to participate during AFOL Shopping Days during the specified days. It’ll also be sent to your email so you don’t have to log in to the Reward Center to see the badge. I cannot confirm if it shows up for every single person who has a VIP account or just for people who are in a LUG. If you are in a LUG and it doesn’t show up, you’ll have to confirm with your Ambassador to see if you are on their list of members. Of course, you can still use your VIP card with the special sticker to get into AFOL Days.

If you aren’t in a LUG, LEGO has provided a Community Locator so you can find the nearest one to you and there you can inquire to join. Here you can meet like-minded individuals who share the love of LEGO.

Thank you for your continued support.

We want to reward you with this AFOL Certification Reward Block, to show you how valued you are to The LEGO Group.
