The Brick Fan LEGO Architecture Building Contest

Late last year, I reviewed some of the new 2016 LEGO Architecture sets including Venice (21026), Berlin (21027), New York City (21028), and Burj Khalifa (21031). I’m happy to announce our very first building contest which happens to revolve around the LEGO Architecture theme with some nice prizes up for grabs.

Contest Rules

This contest will run from March 7 to April 7 and you will be building it similar to the new Architecture Skyline design. Choose any city in the world and create five miniature buildings or monuments that are famous in that city.

Since we’re keeping it fairly simple, the build should be more or less around 10 inches in length by 10 inches in height with some leeway for overhang no more than two studs.

How to Enter

There are a few ways to submit your creation. One way is to add it to the Flickr Group. Another way is on Instagram. For both sites, please use the hashtag #tbfarch so we can easily find your submission.

Entries will be judged on how closely the buildings resemble the real life building.

Fine Print

One entry per person.

Participants from United States Only.

Please do not use decals or stickers.

No non-LEGO parts.

No digital entries (LDD).

No digital backgrounds.

Please use a clean background with good lighting so we can clearly see your build.

Entries allowed until the end of the day April 7 11:59pm PST and voting will being shortly after that. The voting period will … Continue

LEGO Seasonal Iconic Easter Minifigure (5004468) Review

LEGO Seasonal Iconic Easter Minifigure (5004468)

A few days ago, Toys R Us released a “new” LEGO Seasonal set with the Iconic Easter Minifigure (5004468), otherwise known as the Chicken Suit Guy. This set retails for $5.99 and is currently available at Toys R Us stores in the US, if you can find them.

Outside of the box is a sleeve that slips off. The box is very simple looking and there’s nothing too special about it. The shape and artwork for the box resembles a small hen house with some Easter egg around it. The door opens up to reveal the Chicken Suit Guy sitting in one of those black container molds that we’ve seen in the Target Minifigure Boxes.

As for the Chicken Suit Guy, he’s pretty much the same minifigure as from the Series 9 Collectible Minifigures (71000). The only notable visual difference from the two is the head on the original one is hollow while the new one is solid. I also noticed the legs on the new one were somewhat more loose than the old one.

LEGO Seasonal Iconic Easter Minifigure (5004468)

Overall, I’m not sure what the purpose of the Iconic Easter (5004468) set is other than being a little Seasonal set that kids can enjoy. As for collectors, this set is a good opportunity to get the Chicken Suit Guy if you missed out on him three years ago. Since the release of this set, the price for the minifigure on the secondary market has dropped dramatically but as with these fairly exclusive sets, some are buying them up in … Continue

Issues With LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 15 (71011)?

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 15 (71011)

If you haven’t purchased any of the Series 15 LEGO Collectible Minifigures (71011) yet and if there are stores around you that are selling them, you might want to pick them up or be cautious about them. As per a report over on Reddit, there’s some sort of recall on them for whatever reason. Speculation from some is that it might be a legal issue caused by the Shark Guy who looks very similar to the Left and Right Shark from the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show last year. Some others think it’s just a recall because there are some issues with minifigures themselves or with their accessories like getting multiple torsos and no legs while some are getting multiples of a certain accessory.

If you look on Shop@Homeicon, they’re already marked as sold out which is strange considering they were just released last month here in the US. Was this part of this whole recall thing or was it just a coincidence and they happened to sell out quickly. So far, it seems that is happening only in North America. As of this point, there is no official word from LEGO but I’ll keep you updated if there’s any news on it. If you picked up some of Series 15, did you have any quality control issues with them?

Update: Kim from the LAN has posted:

Just to be clear – we have not done a recall in 6 years and if we did, I am quite confident we’d all know.
There may

LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827) Review

LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters (75827)

When the then Ecto-1 (21108) was announced that it would be the next LEGO Ideas set, Ghostbusters fans were both happy and sad. Good because we would be getting an iconic car, bad that we wouldn’t be getting the firehouse to go along with it.

Fast forward about a year and a half and rumors started swirling in the community that we would be getting the firehouse in 2016 and back in October, it was revealed that we would indeed be getting the Firehouse Headquarters (75827) next year and shortly after that, the official images of the set were released. The set features details from both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II.
