LEGO City Space Starter Set (60077) Review

In my second review of the Summer 2015 wave of LEGO City sets, I have the LEGO City Space Starter Set (60077)icon. LEGO has been pushing these Starter Sets in this year’s LEGO City sets which includes a couple of small builds to help you start your City. The Space Starter Set isn’t an exception with its 107 pieces and coming in at a typical $9.99 price point. Just a note, this set is the largest, in terms of piece count, of all the smaller City Starter Sets. The contents of the box includes two un-numbered bags and one instruction booklet.

Anaheim Ducks Frederik Andersen LEGO Goalie Mask

I’m not sure how many of you readers are hockey fans but the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs is well underway and the Anaheim Ducks are getting more exposure as they are in the Western Conference Finals. Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen who is a native of Denmark, which is also the home of The LEGO Group, debuted his LEGO-designed mask at the beginning of the season but people can now see more of his mask since his team is shown more in prime time and not just mostly on the west coast. NBC even did a close up look on it during the game while they were talking about Andersen. The mask was designed by DaveArt and it shows off a minifigure in a Ducks jersey building a brick wall in front of the goal. It’s cool to see a player represent something from his home country which happened to be our favorite hobby in LEGO.

Thanks to Aaron for emailing in about it. Unfortunately, my LA Kings didn’t even make the playoffs as they just came up short so that’s a bummer. I won’t jump on any bandwagons and I’ll just wait for the Kings to come back next year.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Electro (5002125) Review

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Electro (5002125)

I’m back with a review of a newly released item that’s been elusive since last year. The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Electro Minifigure Polybag (5002125) was first seen back in October at LEGO Kidsfest Virginia but it has recently been more widely available at Toys R Us stores as part of a promotion last week as well as being individually purchased for some for $3.99.

We’ve already had an Electro minifigure with the Spider Trike vs Electro (76014)icon but this version of him is based on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie from last year which is loosely based off the Ultimate Marvel incarnation.

The whole Electro minifigure alone is exclusive to this polybag. The only thing that’s not exclusive is the lightning pieces that we’ve seen included with other sets. The torso and legs which is of a dark gray and black color scheme very closely resemble the suit from the movie. The head and hands are a light blue color and the face itself has an angry expression.

If you can find LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Electro (5002125), it’s worth picking up since this is the only way to get this particular minifigure. There has still been some Toys R Us stores that still don’t have it yet even though there was in-store only promotion for it in the US last week. You can also have them check the item number 238428 to see if they have any laying around in the warehouse or at nearby stores.

LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated & Expanded Book Review

Way back in 2011, DK released LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia which featured more than 300 minifigures released for the LEGO Star Wars theme and included many facts about the characters. It’s been four years since the book was published and there are a lot more characters that have been introduced into the theme so accordingly, DK has released the new Updated and Expanded version which includes 72 additional pages of new minifigures. As tradition with many DK books, there is also an exclusive minifigure included with the book which is the White Boba Fett that is based on the Ralph McQuarrie prototype Mandalorian armor used in the 1978 screen test.

LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated & Expanded consists of 288 fully-colored pages and almost everything about the book is overhauled. First off is the new cover design with the title and minifigure window right in the middle instead of in the corner as before.

LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated & Expanded

With the old Character Encyclopedia, the book was broken up into the six movies of the Star Wars saga, the Clone Wars, and the Expanded Universe. Since then Disney has released the Star Wars Rebels animated series and the book is now separated into a continuous timeline starting from Episode I, II, then to the Clone Wars, III, Rebels, IV-VI, and a new category called Legends. This chapter includes all the minifigures that were in the old Expanded Universe chapter who are regarded as non-canon.

Philly Brick Fest 2015 Steel City LUG Showcase

Philly Brick Fest 2015 - Steel City LUG

Continuing with my coverage of Philly Brick Fest 2015 from a few weeks ago, I’ve been showing some of the LUGs that attended the event and displayed their LEGO MOCs with TubeLUG and PennLUG. Today, I have another showcase featuring another Pennsylvania LUG called Steel City LUG.

Steel City LUG is mainly located in Pittsburgh, hence the name “Steel City,” and they made the 5+ hour trip to Philly to represent their LUG. Like last year, they were well represented and even a few members won a couple of Rocky’s for their MOCs, including one special one called “The Lord of Games” which went to Dan Walker. Check out all the cool stuff they had displayed below.

LEGO Inside Tour 2015 Swag

For those who are lucky enough to attend the 2015 LEGO Inside Tour in Billund, Denmark, attendees were given some swag during the very exclusive event. Shown above are some of the stuff that were given away to an attendee on the first day of the tour which includes some business card LEGO minifigures, keychain, pen, badge, DUPLO brick, a LEGO Simpsons Series 2 blind bag, a LEGO Jurassic World container with a piece of amber, and a trans-blue LEGO BIONICLE Gali Mask numbered to 200. Obviously the most notable items are the last two with the amber container not in an official set and a very exclusive Gali Mask similar to the Tahu Mask given out at NYCC last year.

There’s also the LEGO Inside Tour 2015 Set (4000020) that’s given out to everyone who attends but there’s no images of the set yet. I’m sure we’ll see something in a day or two since the first tour ends today.

There are still three tours left for this year, one later this month and two in June, and I assume the attendees will be getting similar items as well.
