Philly Brick Fest 2015 Glow Zone

Philly Brick Fest 2015 Glow Zone

The LEGO news is fairly slow the past couple of days so I’ve had some time to go over the pictures I took while at Philly Brick Fest. The first thing I’ll be featuring is the Glow Zone which was newly implemented since I last attended PBF from last year. The Glow Zone is pretty much a collection of builds that use translucent pieces contained in a curtained off area that is lit up by a blacklight to give the builds a cool effect. The main centerpiece of the Glow Zone is the Cthulhu-looking creature by Carter Baldwin.

LEGO Store May 2015 Monthly Mini Build Event Koala (40130) Review

LEGO May 2015 Monthly Mini Build - Koala (40130)

It’s another month and another LEGO Store Monthly Mini Build event has gone by. For May 2015, we have a Koala (40130) which has a very similar building style as the LEGO Seasonal Valentine’s Day Teddy Bear (40085) and Easter Bunny (40086) just to name a few. Since this is a mini build, it only has 65 pieces which is about half the size of the other creatures.

LEGO May 2015 Monthly Mini Build - Koala (40130)

The build itself is very simple with the major colors being bluish gray and white with some shades of pink for the mouth and ears. The completed look is pretty cute with a head that spins on a turntable piece. The arms and legs are on hinges so they have some articulation as well. The only thing I didn’t like about the Koala is the body looks a little thin if you look at it straight.

LEGO May 2015 Monthly Mini Build - Koala (40130)

Overall, the Koala (40130) is a nice little build for May and it goes great with the Seasonal characters from last year if you managed to pick them up. Next month’s Mini Build will be a Parrot and it’ll be the last one using the current system of waiting in line during the day of the event. If you saw my earlier post today, there will be some changes coming to LEGO Monthly Mini Build Program where you have to register online to reserve your spot to be able to participate. That means no more lining up during the day of the event. You can read more about the changes in the … Continue

LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 (71009) Review

Way back in August of last year, there was talk about the Series 2 LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures (71009) even though Series 1 was still in stores. That was when speculation started up of who will be included in Series 2 before LEGO officially revealed them back in March.

There are 60 minifigures in a box and you can pretty much find three complete sets in a full unopened box. Each of the packets are $3.99 and they contain a random character from the wave. I’ve managed to collect all 16 from Series 2 on my first try with the help of my feel guide which hopefully you can use as well to find the character(s) you want.

A LEGO Brickumentary Official Trailer

The official trailer for A LEGO Brickumentary has now become available watch online. If you haven’t heard, the movie is a documentary about LEGO and it explores the history and the worldwide cultural impact the bricks have on people who build with it. It is narrated by Jason Bateman and there are plenty of interviews and stories with AFOLs about what LEGO means to them.

A LEGO Brickumentary was first shown at the Tribeca Film Festival last year and was picked up by RADiUS-TWC shortly after. The release date for theaters will be July 31, 2015. You may probably recognize many of the builders in the movie including Alice Finch, Nathan Sawaya, and Stephen Pakbaz just to name a few. Check out the trailer below.

Thanks to Adeel for the heads up.

LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel (10247)

An image of the new LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel (10247) has been posted on the AFOLs of FaceBook group via Warren. The image is cropped from the June 2015 LEGO Store Calendar which has started to been passed out already at LEGO Stores. The set will be available to LEGO VIP members on May 13 and for the general public on June 1 at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home. We should be seeing the official press release and designer video any time now.
