LEGO Seasonal Halloween Bat (40090) Review

A few days ago, we reported that a new LEGO Seasonal set would be appearing in stores for the upcoming Halloween season, the Halloween Bat (40090). Like with the previous holiday sets from earlier this year like the Valentine’s Day Teddy Bear (40085) and the Easter Bunny (40086), LEGO has released these cute little creatures to mark the particular occasion. This set contains 156 pieces and retails for $9.99 for a very nice $0.06/piece.

The box contains two un-numbered bags and a small instructions booklet. The Halloween Bat is pretty easy to build with some typical building techniques. On the back of the instructions booklet, you can also see the Seasonal Thanksgiving Turkey (40091) set that should be coming out in a month or so.

There is some articulation in the wings and the feet. The wings have a nice folding effect that allows it to hold the included brick-built pumpkin if it so desires.

Throughout this year, I’ve really like these little seasonal sets and the Halloween Bat (40090) isn’t an exception. It’s a nice addition to my current cast of seasonal characters. The set is now available at various LEGO Brand Stores as well as on Shop@Home but the once in stores sometimes sell out pretty fast.

On a side note, I did see a couple of the Easter Bunny sets on clearance today at my LEGO Store in Fashion Valley so if you’re still looking for one, you can now get it cheaper than the normal retail price.

LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812) Promo Review

Today starts the month of September and that means we finally get the LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812) promotion that the Europeans had a few months ago. In recent months, it appears that LEGO has been focusing more on classic Space sets like the Exo Suit (21109) and Benny’s Spaceship (70816) and this little promo set just adds to it. The set contains 19 pieces and is free with purchases of $99 or more.

Box

Unlike other LEGO promotions, the box for the Classic Space Minifigure is made of a matte-like packaging material with a stud design all around. On either side of the box, there is a classic LEGO Systems logo which has a cool nostalgic feel to it.

The box opens up by sliding out the tray from the right side which shows the contents of the set: an instruction booklet and sealed bag of pieces. The tray itself also has the Classic Space logo.

The actual instructions in the booklet are just two pages to show how to put together the spaceman and the robot. The rest of the pages is a timeline from the last 38 years of LEGO Space sets as well as some of the Space minifigures. A majority of the Space-themed sets have been well represented on the timeline.

LEGO Announcing New Theme at New York Comic Con 2014

BZPower has reported at New York Comic Con 2014, LEGO will be having a panel and they’ve asked people to “take part in a very special event where a brand new LEGO Theme will be announced.” A brand new LEGO theme? There are a few possible ideas what they could be with all the recent LEGO 2015 news. The first possibility is the new LEGO Jurassic World sets that will be based on the upcoming movie starring Chris Pratt. According to reports, there would be five sets in the wave.

The next possible theme that LEGO could be revealing at NYCC is the “Elves” theme which was reported to be a fantasy-typed theme that would include mini-dolls.

The third LEGO theme that could be revealed is LEGO Top Gear. Last year the people at Top Gear asked people to do a survey to guage the audience if they wanted to see vehicles from the popular TV show in LEGO form. It was recently revealed that a list of Supercars would be coming out next year and it may indeed be the Top Gear theme.

Finally, we have a return of an old theme but could be new to people that have just gotten into LEGO and that is BIONICLE. The theme hasn’t been around since 2010 but it was very popular among kids and AFOLs when it was.

So there you have it. LEGO will be announcing a new theme at New York Comic Con 2014 and those were some of the possibilities. What … Continue

STUDS Builder Trading Cards Series 1 Available on Sept 10

Coming off our run of recent 2015 LEGO news, it’s time to get hit up on some news within the LEGO community. Brandon Griffith has announced that Series 1 of the STUDS Builder Trading Cards will be available on September 10th.

If you remember, Brandon did a KickStarter a few years ago and the project got enough funding to create the cards. The cards themselves are your typical glossy cards which features a series of profiles of people in the LEGO community who create some very cool art. If you’re a fan of LEGO, you’ve probably heard of the names of these people including Bruce Lowell, Iain Heath, and Nathan Sawaya, just to name a few.

It looks like a there will be a number of products that will be available on BrickStuds.com including the folowing:

  • STUDS Packs: Each STUDS Pack includes 8 trading cards and 1 Brickforge element. Look for rare chase cards including: Artist Autograph Cards, Custom Fig Cards, and Sketch Cards!
  • STUDS Box: Each STUDS Box includes 28 Packs
  • STUDS Factory Set: The STUDS Factory set includes the 96 card base set plus 9 poster card set
  • STUDS Series 1 Binder

Series 1 of the STUDS trading cards will be very limited so once they sell out, that’s it. If you haven’t seen the cards before, check out my early review of some of the cards that I got from Brandon while at SDCC a few years back.
