Checking out BrickNerd and the Nerdlys

A few months ago, an up-and-coming site called BrickNerd showed up on my LEGO feeds. It was conceived by one of my good friends Tommy Williamson, who I finally got to meet at SDCC 2013. If you recogize the name, Tommy’s been in the LEGO industry for a very long time and has created some great models including Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

BrickNerd is a site of many specialties including LEGO news, reviews, as well as showcasing MOCs from different artists. There is also a video series on YouTube which is very entertaining with high production value. You might even see some unexpected things in his videos. I’ll just say R2-D2 and just leave it at that. As of this writing, there are currently 8 episodes and another one will be coming out very soon.

Tommy also regularly does contests for giveaways such as for his Nerdlys and BrickNerd t-shirts so be sure to follow BrickNerd on various social media outlets if you haven’t including Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter for more details and to show your support.

LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes 2014 Set Images (Partial)

LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes Batman: The Penguin Face off (76010)

Brickset member Legoguy has revealed some clearer images of a couple of two of the four 2014 LEGO DC Universe Super Heroes sets, Batman: The Penguin Face off (76010) and Batman: Man-Bat Attack (76011). We first saw the Penguin set a couple of weeks ago but it was pretty tiny but here we can see a very clear image with Batman in a blue scuba suit. It also looks like he has some printing for a breathing apparatus. The set also includes Penguin riding a duck vehicle with a couple of penguin minions on the side. The Penguin Face off is reminiscent of the ending of Batman Returns. It will retail for $14.99.

The second set image that is revealed is the Batman: Man-Bat Attack (76011). The set includes Batman, Nightwing, and Man-Bat. Batman is riding another Batcopter with a winch in the back. The set also includes The New 52 Nightwing which we also saw a few weeks back. He is flying in a jet pack type vehicle. Finally, we get Man-Bat throwing a couple of dynamite pieces. This set will retail for $24.99.

LEGOLAND Considering Theme Park in Virginia

Currently, there are a total of 6 LEGOLAND theme parks in the world including one here in California and one in Florida. Chris over at Bricks on the Dollar has informed us that Merlin Entertainments is in talks with the local government in Stafford, Virginia of opening up a theme park in the city. The negotiations are still in the early stages but government officials are proposing the location be near the Centreport Parkway area off Interstate 95. The location is approximately 50 miles south of Washington D.C. and about 60 miles north of Richmond, Virginia. Other locations in the United States are also being considered and the company is “nowhere near” a decision.

Sally Ann Wilkinson, head of corporate affairs for Merlin Entertainments, states that they have no comment on the negotiations until their Board and stakeholders are in agreement. County Administrator Anthony Romanello says the county is committed meeting Merlin’s needs, pending the results of their financial analysis in November. He also states that the county could provide something to Merlin by the end of the calendar year as an incentive to opening a park in Stafford.

LEGO CUUSOO Legend of Zelda Iron Knuckle Encounter Hits 10k Supporters

The latest project to hit 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO is the Legend of Zelda: Iron Knuckle Encounter by Wes Talbott. The set features Link running into the Iron Knuckle in a very nice looking playset filled with little trinkets as well as breakable pillars much like in the Ocarina Of Time.

CUUSOO has had a couple of Legend of Zelda sets reach the Review Stage but were eventually turned down, most likely with the IP issue. Even Wes in the comments section stated that his project may not be chosen as an official set but it doesn’t take away from the fact that it has a fairly large number of supporters. We’ll just have to see what happens when the Winter 2013 results are out. Congratualations to Wes for this amazing achievement!

Congratulations on 10,000 Supporters, WesTalbott!

2013.11.02

Huge congratulations to WesTalbott and all of the supporters of this LEGO® CUUSOO project. This is now the third project based on the Legend of Zelda to reach 10,000 supporters, so it’s very clear to us that LEGO and Zelda fans worldwide really want to see this happen.

Even though we haven’t been able to move forward with the past two Legend of Zelda proejcts, our team is happy to consider this project in the Winter 2013 LEGO Review period on its own merits.

What happens now?
This project moves from the Idea stage to the Review stage. A “LEGO Review Board” composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We’ll

The LEGO Movie Lord Business’ Evil Lair (70809) Revealed

The LEGO Movie Lord Business’ Evil Lair (70809)

Continuing with The LEGO Movie news, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the next set that will be releasing in January 2014, Lord Business’ Evil Lair (70809). The set will include 738 pieces and will retail for $89.99. There are six minifigures in the set including Lord Business, Emmet, Vitruvius, Ma Cop, Pa Cop, El Macho Wrestler, which we first saw last week, and a brick-built Biznis Kitty. Biznis Kitty is a different version of Uni-Kitty in the Cloud Cuckoo Palace (70803).

The set featured is probably at the movie climax. You can see Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) going up against Lord Business’ “mech” in his lair. The lair also shows the El Macho Wrester in a chamber of sorts. Ma Cop and Pa Cop are stuck to the ground from the glue spraying machine hooked up to a brick-built 9v battery on the right which also includes a tube of glue up top. Finally, the Biznis Kitty sits comfortably on the sofa.
