LEGOLAND California Star Wars Miniland Death Star & Heartlake City Expansion Announced

If you’re planning on going to LEGOLAND California in 2015, you will be finding some new things at the park. The first thing is that the Star Wars Miniland will be expanding again next year and they will be adding the Death Star as part of their attraction. The Death Star will span 6 feet across and will include the trench run scene inside the space station. This expansion will be opening right before Star Wars Days on March 7 and 8. You can check out the current Star Wars Miniland in one of our previous posts.

That’s not all that LEGOLAND California has in store for next year. They have also announced there will be a brand new area in the park based on the LEGO Friends theme, Heartlake City. From what is stated, this new section will take over an area that had been underused which has water features. Children can explore Heartlake City on Andrea’s tour bus which also has a sing along. There will be building activities and a horseback ride on a carousel.

Check out the full press release for the new Death Star at the Star Wars Miniland and the LEGO Friends Heartlake City expansion below:

LEGO Legends of Chima Water Park Now Open at LEGOLAND California

As we reported back in September of last year, LEGOLAND California was expanding and was adding a new water park based on LEGO Legends of Chima. The wait is over and the water park is now open to the public. Read the official press release as well take a full tour of the new LEGO Legends of Chima Water Park below.

LEGO® Legends of Chima™ Water Park presented by Cartoon Network

Now Open!

The LEGO Legends of Chima Water Park is based on the LEGO Group’s newest hit product “Legends of Chima,” where animal tribes battle in a mystical land for control of the precious energy source called “CHI”. The Lion Temple Wave Pool is the marquee attraction in the new Water Park where guests make their way through a LEGO lion archway as Mount Cavora releases 400 gallons of water every minute into the wave pool. An animal from each of the eight animal tribes is represented on Mount Cavora and families will enjoy spending the day splashing about one of the many water features in the pool, playing with oversized soft LEGO brick and soaking in the sun.

Lion Temple Wave Pool is the centerpiece of our new Water Park where you’ll make your way through a LEGO archway and into an interactive wave pool designed for families with young children.

Cragger’s Swamp is a hands-on water play area that invites you to ride water slides, blast water cannons and jets and slide through the head of a massive crocodile. More than 50 interactive

The LEGO Movie Experience at LEGOLAND California

IMG_3721

Last month, I attended Star Wars Days 2014 at LEGOLAND California and while I was there, I also checked out the recently opened The LEGO Movie Experience. The LEGO Movie is now out worldwide but if you still haven’t seen the movie yet, there will be some spoilers after this point. You have been warned.

The LEGO Movie Experience is a replica of the basement area of “The Man Upstairs” which is shown at the end of the film. The area is filled with sets that were actually used in the movie including the different worlds in the movie such as Bricksburg, The Old West, Cloud Cuckoo Land, Middle Zealand, and the Octan Tower. Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! (70816) is also displayed in the space area of the basement. You can even see some nods to AFOLs such as Bruce Lowell’s donut and rubber duck. Check out images of The LEGO Movie Experience and if you’re in the San Diego area, head over to LEGOLAND and check it out in person. Pictures don’t show the place justice.

LEGOLAND California Star Wars Days 2014 Recap

LEGOLAND California Star Wars Days 2014

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Star Wars Days 2014 at LEGOLAND California. There were many activities held at the park such as the Droid Hunt, the Miniland Scavenger Hunt, and the Fan Gallery. I also ran into a couple of friends there which was cool. The Fan Gallery was ran by Ace over at FBTB and the MOCs were created by local AFOLs including members from LUGOLA and SandLUG. Other things that were cool at Star Wars Days was the replica of Luke’s Landspeeder. Check out all the images I took while I was there below.

LEGO Star Wars TC-4 Confirmed as Star Wars Day Volunteer Giveaway

LEGO Star Wars TC-4 Polybag

FBTB has confirmed that the exclusive minifigure for volunteering and displaying a MOC at this week’s Star Wars Days at LEGOLAND California will indeed be the TC-4 minifigure polybag. This particular minifigure has been rumored to been this year’s LEGO May the 4th promotional giveaway but there’s been no confirmation on that yet.

Star Wars Days features many activities such as the 501st & Rebel Legion Droid Hunt and the Miniland Scavenger Hunt. Also be sure to check out all the MOCs that will be displayed at the Fan Gallery on the Model Shop roof. There’s a very slim chance that I may be there this year but I have to see.

The LEGO Movie Experience Opens at LEGOLAND California Resort

The Lego Movie Experience at LLCA

The new The LEGO Movie Experience is now open to the public at LEGOLAND California Resort. The Experience features a behind-the-scenes look at the real movie set seen in the film. You get to see the “basement” area that was shown in The LEGO Movie which shows the many different worlds of the movie including Bricksburg, The Old West, Cloud Cuckoo Land, the Octan Tower, and Middle Zealand just to name a few. The whole set took a team of 10 LEGO Master Builders 5 weeks to design the models and 2,000 hours to build the whole thing. Below are some other interesting facts about The LEGO Movie set:

1,200: Models on the set (two or more pieces stuck together)

3,863,484: Number of LEGO bricks used to create the set

15,080,330: Total LEGO pieces seen in the entire movie. If you were to build the entire film with LEGO, this is how many bricks you’d need.

116: Number of buildings made from LEGO.

165: Number of vehicles

15: Number of spaceships

1,423: Number of minifigures

The whole experience doesn’t stop there. There are also models displayed at the LEGOLAND Hotel as well. The model of the logo took about 4 Master Builders around 220 hours to complete. It is 8 feet long, 2.5 feet high, and 2.5 feet deep and weighs about 1,200 pounds. Check out the video below for a preview of The LEGO Movie set before you go and see the real thing. Jadon Sand, who plays Finn in the movie, will be there … Continue

The LEGO Movie Display at LEGOLAND California

A fellow reader of the site and contact, let’s call him “Bob,” has sent me some images of some brand new The LEGO Movie models that are currently displayed at the LEGOLAND California Hotel for guests to see. The various scenes were created by the LEGO builders at the park and were based off screenshots and concept art from Warner Bros. Check out all the different scenes in the movie that is in the model. We will have more The LEGO Movie images from LEGOLAND this weekend.
