The LEGO Group at SXSW Interactive 2013

The LEGO Group was in Austin, TX on March 11th and gave a presentation at SXSW Interactive 2013. TLG was represented by Tim Courtney, LEGO CUUSOO’s Community Manager, and Peter Espersen, LEGO’s Head of Online Community. They discussed the state of the LEGO Fan Community as well as LEGO and social crowdsourcing, aka CUUSOO. What everyone learned is that when you combine LEGO plus anything, it’ll probably be “Awesome!” and if someone has an idea, they could crowdsource with CUUSOO and hope there’s enough momentum to get the required amount of supporters, such as the Minecraft set which only took two days to achieve that goal. Sometimes an idea will have enough supporters but it doesn’t fit into LEGO’s strategy and will be rejected like The Winchester from Shaun of the Dead. Although there are ideas that make us want to purchase them, LEGO knows they cannot please everyone. They want ideas to be a win for the fans but also a win for the business.
