The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks Book Update

It’s been just over a day since LEGO announced they are partnering with Unbound to release a book geared towards AFOLs called The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks. Here’s a little update of what has happened since then. As of this post, there are 960 supporters which brings the crowdfunding to 61% funded. Most of the large rewards have been claimed but there are still various limited edition prints available.

There’s also an update of what the book consists of since we didn’t get any details from the press release yesterday.

• A full colour, high quality hardback with printed endpapers
• 279 x 229mm portrait with head and tail bands
• At least 350-400 colour and black and white photographs
• Approximately 368-400 pages, and 60-70,000 words

As you can see, it’ll be a pretty big book and could be a good candidate for a coffee table book. There’s also a video from Daniel Konstanski talking about what we can expect to see which you can check out below.

There’s still a lot of time to pledge your support for The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks as they are taking pre-orders are accepted until early 2021. The book won’t officially release until 2022.

LEGO Continuing to Support Families Impacted by COVID-19

Back in March, LEGO announced some new initiatives to support children and families impacted by COVID-19 and recently, they have recently revealed how they are continuing to support families. In the past few months, they have partnered up with more agencies in other countries to support the work in those local communities to supply essential services to families which you can check out below.

How we’re continuing to support families impacted by COVID-19

We committed to delivering learning through play support and vital supplies to crisis-affected children – here’s how we’re doing.

Back in March, as the impact of COVID-19 on children’s wellbeing and development became clear, we joined forces with the LEGO Foundation to pledge over US $50m to support children and families impacted by the pandemic.

Over the past few months, we’ve been working alongside new and existing partners to strengthen and support the work they are doing in our local communities to provide essential services to families during this time.

Here’s a quick look at some of the many ways in which our partners are supporting families through these unprecedented times – whether it be bringing learning through play, ensuring children have access to education and healthcare, or helping families feel safe and supported:

This organisation is committed to combatting poverty and providing humanitarian aid to support families in the Czech Republic and around the world through the most difficult of times. Funding from the LEGO Group will help the organisation provide care and education support packages for

LEGO August 2020 Sets Delayed Until September 1

If you were shopping this past weekend on LEGO Shop@Home in North America, you may have noticed that a lot of the summer 2020 set that were slated to be released on August 1 didn’t launch. We have some official statements coming out of the LEGO Ambassador Network regarding this issue.

The reason that we don’t have the sets yet is because COVID shut down the factory in Mexico and the NA stock wasn’t ready for launch until September 1. LEGO also said that they start selling the new products as soon as they get them so it could be any time between now and September 1. Again, this is affecting the North America region.

The typical Europe = June sets that equal NA = August sets have been impacted by the closing of the Mexico factory. I believe this has been mentioned in other threads but I have been unable to locate this info being shared on the LAN. Some of the August 1st sets have been delayed due to production limitations. This can was shown on LEGO.com by having “Coming Soon” on some products and “Available August 1st” for other sets. The “Coming Soon” sets have not been canceled, just delayed and our other factories are working hard to assist all markets.

I have been informed that due to the LEGO Mexico factory closures, we (in NA) moved out a list of products from Aug. 1 to Sep. 1. With that said, we have been informed we can sell the products upon receipt so

BrickLink to Start Charging Sales Tax and VAT

If you’re a user of BrickLink, they have announced that they will start charging sales tax and VAT on products on the site. Sales and use tax will be collected in the US by the end of September and VAT will be charged to EU sellers starting on August 5. You can read more about it below.

Dear BrickLink member,

Over the next few weeks, BrickLink will undergo some changes that will affect our membership. These changes are necessary for our platform to be compliant with sales and use tax and VAT legislation where applicable. We also feel they will help build our reputation as a well-regarded ecommerce site. These changes are broken down into three categories outlined below:

1) We will begin to collect sales and use tax in the United States. We have already registered in two states – Connecticut and California – and we plan to register in more states within the next few months. All orders shipping to an address in these states, even from stores outside the United States, will be subject to this tax requirement. We anticipate BrickLink will start collecting this tax by the end of September.

2) We will begin charging VAT on BrickLink fees to EU sellers who have not enabled the VAT feature on BrickLink. The first invoice date this will take effect on is Aug 5, 2020. All VAT-enabled EU sellers will now have their VAT registration checked by BrickLink.

3) We will soon present you with a revised Terms of Service. You will
