LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812) Promo Review

Today starts the month of September and that means we finally get the LEGO Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812) promotion that the Europeans had a few months ago. In recent months, it appears that LEGO has been focusing more on classic Space sets like the Exo Suit (21109) and Benny’s Spaceship (70816) and this little promo set just adds to it. The set contains 19 pieces and is free with purchases of $99 or more.

Box

Unlike other LEGO promotions, the box for the Classic Space Minifigure is made of a matte-like packaging material with a stud design all around. On either side of the box, there is a classic LEGO Systems logo which has a cool nostalgic feel to it.

The box opens up by sliding out the tray from the right side which shows the contents of the set: an instruction booklet and sealed bag of pieces. The tray itself also has the Classic Space logo.

Instructions Booklet

The actual instructions in the booklet are just two pages to show how to put together the spaceman and the robot. The rest of the pages is a timeline from the last 38 years of LEGO Space sets as well as some of the Space minifigures. A majority of the Space-themed sets have been well represented on the timeline.

LEGO Blacktron II Grid Trekkor (6812) Review

LEGO Blacktron II Grid Trekkor (6812)

In our final set of the old school LEGO Space sets, we have the Blacktron Future Generation aka Blacktron II Grid Trekkor (6812). It contains 23 pieces and was originally released in 1991.

Minifigure

There is one minifigure in this little set and it is the Blacktron II Astronaut. His torso is a plain white one with the iconic green/black/white Blacktron logo right in the middle. The arms and hands are black. The legs are also solid white. The astronaut has the simple yellow minifigure head. He wears a black helmet with a trans-neon green visor. Finally we also has a large jet pack attached to him.

Build

The Grid Trekkor is a very nicely built vehicle given the number of pieces that are available. It rolls on four rubber black wheels. The Trekkor has a trans-neon green radar attached to the front. The vehicle is operated by a control panel in the cockpit area. There is a trans-neon green antenna that is horizonal on the left side of the Trekkor.

We have come to the end of the review of the Grid Trekkor (6812) as well as our 3-part miniseries of the older LEGO Space sets. The Trekkor and the minifigure are both awesome. The only downside is that I didn’t get more of these sets back when I was a kid. Too bad LEGO doesn’t make sets like these anymore.

This Space miniseries was actually fun to do. Trying to find all of the old parts again from my bin was pretty fun … Continue

LEGO Ice Planet 2002 Ice Tunnelator (6814) Review

LEGO Ice Planet 2002 Ice Tunnelator (6814)

Continuing with our series of our review of the LEGO Space sets, we have the second part of the series, the Ice Planet 2002 Ice Tunnelator (6184). The set contains 25 pieces and retailed for $2.99 back in 1993.

Minifigure

The minifigure included in the set is called the Ice Planet Astronaut. His torso has some printing of what looks to be a breathing apparatus which goes back to the white air tank piece attached to his back. He has the standard minifigure face printing but with some white hair printing as well. The Astronaut wears a white helmet with a trans-orange visor with antenna. His accessories include a chainsaw and a pair of trans-orange skis.

The Ice Tunnelator is a small vehicle with the chainsaw attached to the front. The seat is a 2×3 white bracket which is on a blue 2×6 plate. The skis are able to attach to the back of the seat. The Tunnelator rolls on some large white wheels.

Overall, the Ice Tunnelator is a neat set. It’s very simple but it works. I really liked the blue/white/orange color scheme of the Ice Planet 2002 sets and I wished I picked up more sets when I was a kid.

LEGO Space Police II Galactic Chief (6813) Review

LEGO Space Police II Galactic Chief (6813)

Recently, I found a couple of my brother’s old LEGO Space sets we played with before I went into my “Dark Ages.” I’ll be doing a short 3-part series of these small sets. Today we have the Space Police II Galactic Chief (6813). It was released in 1993 and sold for $2.99.

Minfigure

The minifigure is named Captain Magenta and he is the Galactic Chief of the Space Police. His torso is exclusive to the minifigure and has the Space Police logo printing. The arms are green as well as the legs. He also wears red epaulets to signify that he is the Chief. The head shows the Chief wearing a headset. His helmet is black with a green visor. His accessory is a white microphone.

Build

The build itself is pretty simple. At only 23 pieces, the set was one of the smallest LEGO Space Police sets that was released 20 years ago. The front has a 3×2 sloped brick and has the words Space Police printed on it. The green windshield doesn’t cover the sides of the cockpit. Speaking of the cockpit, there are no controls so I’m not sure how Capatin Magenta is piloting the ship. Towards the back are a couple of thrusters on each side of the ship.

The Galactic Chief is a pretty cool nostalgic set. It also has some good swooshability. I remember flying it around as a kid and chasing other LEGO cars that I made. Although this was the only Space Police II set I have, … Continue
