LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) 2017 May the 4th Polybag Review

LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611)

The annual LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promotional event starts in just a few hours and usually we get exclusive minifigures as part of the promo but this year, LEGO has decided to do something different. For this year, we get a brick-built R2-D2 (30611) polybag to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars. The polybag consists of 70 pieces and you can get it for free with purchases of $50 or more in LEGO Star Wars products.

When the set was revealed to be this year’s promotional polybag, there were differentiating opinions on it. Some welcomed the change while others are somewhat disappointed that it’s not an exclusive minifigure since there are a ton of other characters that could be great minifigures.

Build

R2-D2 is actually a pretty decent build with the body useing SNOT techniques to create the look. You actually build it upside-down before turning it back over to finish it up at the end. The head piece is exclusive to this polybag and there’s printing all around it. It is attached in the middle of the body with a Technic pin so it can actaully rotate around. Just a side note, the head is the same size as the R4-P17 Astromech droid head from the UCS Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter (10215).

There is some articulation at the legs and feet using Technic pins as the main things to connect the legs to the body and the feet to the legs. There’s also the retractable central leg in the front to show R2-D2 … Continue

LEGO May the 4th In-Store Event

As stated on the May 2017 LEGO Store Calendar, there will be some in-store events that will be held during the May the 4th promotion. Thanks to a reader, we now know what kind of events that will be going on that day. From what I’m told, there will be a speed building event for kids age 6-14 and the fastest builders will get the Darth Revan (5002123) minifgure polybag while all participants will get the Hoth Han Solo (5001621) minifigure polybag, while supplies last. As LEGO Star Wars collectors know by now, the Darth Revan minifigure is highly coveted and it’s cool that kids have a chance to get this minifigure again.

Thanks to Roger for the message.

LEGO Star Wars Toys R Us Princess Leia Mini Build Revealed

LEGO Star Wars Toys R Us Leia

Toys R Us has revealed the LEGO Star Wars Princess Leia build that will be happening on May 6 from 12-2pm local time, while supplies last. Honestly, the build looks bad but collectors will still want to get it and kids will have fun building it. There is a sign up form that lists the event but who knows if TRU will actually follow that or just let people in line build it. Thanks to CM4Sci for the heads up.

LEGO Star Wars Toys R Us May the 4th Building Event

The Toys R Us website hasn’t been updated yet but there will be a LEGO Star Wars May the 4th building event on May 6 from 12-2pm. There’s no word yet on what the build will be but hopefully we’ll get to see something before the event actually starts. If you are attending, remember to get there early as these events are very popular.

Update: Apparently, there’s a sign up form for the event and it is revealed on the page that the build will be a Micro Princess Leia. There’s a limited number of spots available for that day so sign up if you wish to attend. I’m not sure if the rules have changed and if walk-ups are accepted. I would call your store to confirm.

Toys R Us Hong Kong has posted the official images of the LEGO Star Wars Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive (75191). The set has four minifigures including R4-P17, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Boba Fett, and Jango Fett. I assume the build is based on the Episode II: Attack of the Clones where Obi-Wan is going to Kamino where he discovers the Clone Army. I’ve been told the set will go for about $129.99 but we’ll see.

LEGO Star Wars Detention Block Rescue Building Instructions

Star Wars Celebration 2017 LEGO Star Wars Detention Block Rescue

Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 is now over and for those who were able to get the exclusive LEGO Star Wars Detention Block Rescue, they are some lucky individuals. Fans have been waiting patiently for the instructions to come out and it looks like BrickFinder was able to find someone who posted them.

The full building instructions have been generously uploaded to Google Drive which you can download a copy and it looks like there are no exclusive parts to the set so if you have all the parts, you can easily build your own sans the limited edition box. If you prefer to have the whole thing, eBay is the way to go and the price for it has been slowly dropping and you can get for less than $200 now. It’s not chump change but for collectors, it’s another thing to pick up.
