Have We Seen the Last of the LEGO Star Wars May the 4th Exclusive Minifigures?

This year, LEGO will end their six year run of exclusive minifigures for the annual May the 4th promotion with the LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) polybag as it was confirmed on the May 2017 LEGO Store Calendar. For many collectors, including me, the May the 4th promo is one of the times of the year where we are excited to see what characters we’re going to get as a minifigure that we normally wouldn’t get in a regular set. The Star Wars canon as well as the Expanded Universe is massive and there is an unlimited number of characters that could be turned into buildable characters like R2-D2.

Does this year’s polybag start a new trend for buildable characters for future LEGO May the 4th promotions or do you think this is just a one-off thing for 2017 of LEGO testing the waters for these kind of polybags? Keep in mind, this post is about the May the 4th promotions and not ones that are for other times of the year.

Here’s a list of the May the 4th LEGO minifigures from previous years:

2011: Shadow ARF Trooper (2856197)

2012: TC-14 (5000063)

2013: Hoth Han Solo (5001621)

2014: Darth Revan (5002123)

2015: Admiral Yularen (5002949)

2016: First Order Stormtrooper (30602)

LEGO April Fool’s Day 2017 Roundup

April Fool’s Day is pretty much over and the LEGO community again this year came together to spread hoaxes and playing jokes on their readers. There’s a little recap of some of the things that happened today around the LEGO community. You can see from the list below, there’s similar topics from various sites. If there’s something that I missed, let me know and I’ll try to add it to the list.

For my annual joke, I reported that I would start reviewing LEPIN sets but that will never happen. Many of you guys caught on which isn’t that surprising.

Adeel Zubair

A reader named Adeel made The Simpsons The Android’s Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop (71062) and made it seem that LEGO tweeted it out.

BrickFinder

They reported that Beijing would be opening up the first LEPIN certified store.

BrickLoot

The announced the MEGA Brick Loot box which contains a build that had over 20,000 pieces.

BrickNerd

BrickNerd also put out a “new” LEGO Star Wars set with The Destruction of Jedhi (040117) that only consisted of tan bricks and would only be available during the May the 4th promotion.

Brickset

They had two posts for April Fool’s with the first one being a new LEGO Game of Thrones theme complete with set descriptions.

Their other post was “confirming” a new UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) with an image of Shop@Home with an image and pricing of the set.

BricksFans

They did a post of Google & LEGO joining together for a Google Build Assistant.… Continue

LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265) Review

LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265)

For the whole month of April, LEGO Stores and Shop@Home will be giving out a free 58 piece LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265) polybag with a $20 LEGO Friends purchase, while supplies last.

One of the more interesting things about the set is the packaging. It uses the newer softer plastic that you can easily tear open to access the contents.

LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265)

The build is very simple using plates as the base and tiles along with jumper plates to get the smooth top. There are five white bunnies and five light gray hamsters to use as play pieces. The hamster is actually very rare as this is only the second set that it has appeared in with the other being the Heartlake Riding Club (41126) which only has one of them included. Also fairly rare are the 1×1 dark magenta tiles and the 4×10 lime green baseplates.

LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265)

As the set name states, this is a Tic Tac Toe board in which a player has to line up three pieces horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265)

As I mentioned before, the LEGO Friends Tic Tac Toe (40265) polybag is free with a $20 LEGO Friends purchase throughout the month of April. It’s a nice little travel-sized game that kids can take along during trips. For the collectors, some of the rarer pieces may be of interest.
