LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) Polybag Building Instructions

LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611)

A few days ago, I reported on a new LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 (30611) polybag. This was a brick-built version of the droid which looks very cute. It looks like the instructions for the build are now online. It looks all the parts are fairly common except for the couple of printed 1×1 tile pieces for the front, which are exclusive. So if you already have all the parts, you can building R2-D2 pretty easily but have to do without the detailing in the front.

LEGO Architecture Guggenheim Museum (21035) Revealed

LEGO Architecture Guggenheim Museum 21035

The LEGO Architecture theme will be continuing this year and it looks like we have our first look at the Guggenheim Museum (21035) from the LEGO Italian Catalog. This updated version is larger and more detailed than the 2009 version. I believe this the second LEGO Architecture set to be redesigned from one that has been released before with the first being the Burj Khalifa (21008).

The new Guggenheim Museum (21305) joins Sydney (21302), Chicago (21033), and London (21035) as lineup for the Winter 2017 LEGO Architecture sets.

How to Get The LEGO Batman Movie Accessory Pack

The LEGO Batman Movie Accessory Pack

A few days ago, I reported on a new The LEGO Batman Movie Accessory Pack polybag. A reader has given some information on how to get this particular polybag. If you checked out the January 2017 LEGO Store Calendar, there is an in-store event that starts from January 2-February 26. From what I’ve been told, they’ll be little stickers of Batman hidden throughout the store and if you find them all, you can get one of these polybags.

As you can see from the image above, the Accessory Pack consists of Batman and the Batsignal along with a sticker sheet and a double-sided poster with the heroes on one side and the villains on the other.

It looks like there will be plenty of The LEGO Batman Movie Accessory Packs available since the event goes on for two month however those not close to a LEGO Store will probably have to get it from another source.

Thanks to Purple Dave for the heads up.

Update: I’ve had people say that this promotion won’t start until later in the month while I’ve heard others say they’ve gotten it. I guess it depends if the individual stores have everything set up or not. You may wamt to call and see if they’re ready.

LDraw Releases new Parts Update for 2016

If you’re using LDraw as for your virtual LEGO building, you’ll be glad to hear that there is a new parts update that has been released for the program. This update adds 475 new parts to the catalog while adding 572 new files to the core library. Check out the press release below to see the details of this update.

The 2016-01 LDraw Parts Update has been now been released. This adds 572 new files to the core library, including 475 new parts and 43 new primitives. This update also includes updated versions of the colour configuration files (LDConfig.ldr and LDCfgalt.ldr) thanks to enthusiasm of Sven v. Beuningen and the co-ordination of Willy Tschager and Magnus Forsberg.

Thanks are of course due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release, including several first-time authors. The reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the parts tracker and deserve just as much credit.

You can preview the new parts in 2016-01 here, download the zip-file update or Windows install package here. Alternatively you can use the LDView menu option File | Check for Library Updates… to install the update.

Please accept our apology for this being the only parts update of 2016.

LEGO Ideas Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTI Achieves 10,000 Supporters

This is actually an older LEGO Ideas project that achieved 10,000 supporters but it hit the mark during Thanksgiving and I didn’t see it so here’s a post giving it some recognition. The Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTI project by hasskabal only took six weeks to get 10,000 supporters and it is the third most viewed project, as of this post, only behind Minecraft and Back to the Future – DeLorean Time Machine.

The project proposes 1,278 pieces and it is a replicate of the classic 1970’s Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTI. As you can see from the image below, the size of the car is about the same as other LEGO Creator vehicles that have already been released.

The Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTI now joins Boat Repair Shop, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “The Bus” Hulkbuster UCS, LEGO Store Modular Version, Red Dwarf, Landrover 4×4, Vintage Tram, 1950’s Diner, Ship in a Bottle, The Flagship Leviathan, Rey’s Speeder, and The Iron Giant as the projects that qualify the Third 2016 Review Stage.
