First “Official” Look at LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart (71016)

LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart (71016)

It looks like Yahoo screwed up today and has given our “official” first look at the new LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart (71016). The information and images came from a cached page that was inadvertently put up.

The LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart (71016) contains 2,179 pieces and will retail for $199.99. The set will basically open up like with The Simpsons House (71006) to see the details inside of the convenience store. Apu will have a new store shirt which is different from his usual attire. You also will get a sticker of Jasper as Frostillicus to make it look like he’s frozen inside the freezer.

From what we know now, the Kwik-E-Mart (71016) will be available to LEGO VIP members from April 15-30 and to the general public on May 1st.

This means that the official official reveal of the set by LEGO will be very soon with more images and the designer video to go along with it.

Update: Yahoo’s page of the set reveal is now live. LEGO has also officially revealed the set.

LEGO Suing Companies for LEGO Friends Patent Infringement

LEGO Friends Logo.svg

The guys over at Brick Fanatics has found an interesting article regarding LEGO Friends and its competition. The National Law Journal is reporting that the US International Trade Commission gave permission for LEGO to go ahead and bring patent and copyright infringement cases against three competitors, MEGA Brands Inc., LaRose Industries, and Best-Lock Construction Toys Inc.

Last year Mattel purchased MEGA Brands Inc. which is the parent company of Mega Bloks and expanded their portfolio to include construction sets based on brands that they already own including Barbie and the recently announced Monster High. The sets that are in question are the “My Life As” ones as seen below.

LaRose Industries is more well known for their Lite Brix construction sets and the particular sets in question are the Sunset Island sets where the figures look fairly similar to the LEGO Friends characters.

The figures in the Best-Lock I’m Teen Little Mermaid sets were claimed to have a nearly exact dimension and proportions as the Friends mini-dolls.

LEGO counsel Elizabeth Alquist and Eric TeVelde of Day Pitney notes the three companies are looking “to capitalize on LEGO’s success by copying its innovations and products and preying on the vulnerability of LEGO’s youthful consuming population, instead of developing their own product lines.”

That statement is pretty true considering that LEGO pretty much has the market cornered with the popularity of the Friends sets. We’ll see what happens when the case actually goes to court but this also shows that LEGO will do what it takes to protect … Continue

Awesome LEGO Jurassic Park Stop-Motion Video

Jurassic Park is by far my favorite movie of all time and I was ecstatic that there will be new LEGO sets based on the upcoming Jurassic World movie. Anything that includes a combination of LEGO and Jurassic Park, I’m totally in and this brings us to this stop-motion video that I was emailed about by Paul Hollingsworth. Let’s go back to where it all began with the first Jurassic Park movie with Digitalwizardz over on YouTube where they have created one of the best LEGO animations based on the first movie that I’ve seen. This video is sort of an abridged version of the movie which includes various, yet famous quotes from Jurassic Park mixed with some LEGO humor.

The crew of the film includes Paul and his daughter and their friends as well as animation by Forrest Whaley and Sean Willets. Check out the video as well as the behind the scenes video below.

BricksLA LEGO Fan Convention Opening in Southern California in May

There will finally be a LEGO fan convention in Southern California this year with an event called BricksLA which was advertised a little this past weekend at Star Wars Days. BricksLA is a LEGO convention that features MOCs, vendors, and activities, pretty much what you see at other LEGO conventions across the US. The unique thing about it is that there’s finally an event that’s closer to home and another one on the west cost in addition to Bricks by the Bay and Brickcon but without the long drive/flight up.

There isn’t much information at this time but what we do know is that it will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center on May 16 & 17. Admission costs are $5 and kids under 12 get in free. There’s will be more info once we get closer to May including AFOL registration.

LEGO Doctor Who Release Date?

LEGO Ideas Doctor Who

Earlier today, I reported on some details of the LEGO Ideas The Big Bang Theory and WALL•E sets with info given to me by my contact. The same contact has provided the release month(s) for the LEGO Ideas Doctor Who set is rumored to be around October or November and New Zealand in January 2016. It was also stated that it was apparently delayed for some reason. Given that, the official reveal of the set probably won’t happen for a few more months.

There hasn’t been much details about the Doctor Who set except for the teaser image of a partial Peter Capaldi’s minifigure head. LEGO fans along with Whovians will have to wait a little longer for more details to be released.
