LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 10 Shows Up in Hungary

LEGO 71001

Brickset is reporting that the LEGO Series 10 Collectible Minifigures (71001) have started showing up in Hungary. KockaMania.hu has posted images of the minifigure checklist as well as an image depicting the rare Mr. Gold minifigiure. Remember there are only 5000 of the Mr. Gold minifigures being produced by LEGO so unless you’re buying it off the secondary market, better start searching as soon as you can. Series 10 is expected to be released in the next couple of months.

World of Chima LEGOLAND Florida Expansion

If you’re going to LEGOLAND Florida in the near future, you’ll probably see some construction starting there. The reason? LEGOLAND Florida will be adding a new area to the park called the World of Chima and will be opening this July. This new area will be the first major expansion at the park and will be based on the new Legends of Chima theme. It will feature some new interactive sections including a water ride called the Quest For Chi and a Speedorz Arena where players build and compete with the Speedorz sets. The park will also be showing the LEGO Chima 4D Movie Xperience which have also recently opened at LEGOLAND California earlier this month.

In the Quest For Chi ride, guests will be riding a watercraft and use water cannons to help Laval defeat Cragger and recover the stolen CHI orbs. Employees dressed as Laval and Cragger will also be doing meet-and-greets in there.

The World of Chima expansion will add around 150 construction jobs and about 50 jobs will be added to the LEGOLAND Florida staff.

The LEGO Group Building Factory in China

Today, The LEGO Group announced that will be building a LEGO factory in China starting in 2014. The factory will be located in Jiaxing which has a population of 5 million people. The reason why LEGO decided to open one there is because of a few reasons. First, the location is near their existing regional distribution center and the city already has the facilities and infrastructure needed to build the new factory. Another reason why Jiaxing was chosen to have a factory there is because LEGO believes the location is perfect for the LEGO employees working there and has the best match with LEGO’s core values.

The factory is planned to be fully operational by 2017 and will have about 2000 employees and the size of it will be around 120,000 square meters. The investment amount into the factory will be “a 3 digit million Euro figure.” All the products made in the factory will be supplying products for Asian market and about 70-80% of all LEGO products in the region.

The LEGO Group has been moving to be more environmental conscience recently and this move adds to that by reducing the need to transport products all the way from Europe to sell in Asia. Although there will be a new facility in China, Michael McNulty, Senior Vice President, Procurement, states that “the same technology, automation and standards for employee safety and product quality as our LEGO factories in Denmark, Hungary, Czech Republic and Mexico, and it will have a distinct LEGO look and feel.”
